Hi, i am new in cyprus and wants to know of some legal help to get settled in cyprus as i have started liking this country :: I now intend to settle in this country and wants to avail any work permit or legal status. Please help me.

Hello,

Where are you from? If you are from another EU country then you should have no problem to stay and work in Cyprus for as much as you want.

If you are not from an EU country then its going to be much harder. You either need to be hired by a company who will arrange for a work permit for you, or you need to make an investment in Cyprus (e.g. open your own company) of several thousand pounds.

my name is Suzy. I´m interested in your reply. I think you could help me. I´ve spoken to a manager of a hotel in Paphos about a job. He hired me as a babysitter to Kidsclub, and said that in Cyprus there´s no need to make a contract between the employer and the employee because of the EU-memberstatement. It sounds quite strange, that´s why I would like to know that what he said is true or not.Please answer my question. Thanks for your reply.

Hi suzy, sorry for butting in... I find it quite strange that your prospective employer doesn't want to give you a contract. If I were you I would ensure you get a contract for this work, otherwise you could end up being exploited as cheap labour, with no recourse if the employer decides to terminate your employment at any time.

I agree. Or what if he decides to fire you in the middle of summer? How can you dispute it if you don't have a contract? Or what if he decides not to pay you? How can you prove someone that you were actually hired? I would definetely get something in writing before starting to work there no matter what he says.

Exactly, you should always get a contract no matter how short the period of work. Just because you're now an EU citizen doesn't necessarily guarantee you rights without having a contract you can refer to.

as an eu citizen you will be allowed the full benefits from the state as all cypriots do. if you dont have a contract what will it happen if he fires you?you will not be able to get the unemployement benefits you will be allowed to. if you dont have a contract how will you arrange your social security "fund"(can someone write the appropriate english words,i dont know the english terminology... ).
to say it in a few words...u must make a contract with him!!

Thanx for everybody´s answers.I knew the answer I just wanted to be sure about it. Thanx a lot. But there´s a problem. My boyfriend goes 100 percently and I want to go with him. I dont care about anything I just want to be with him. What can I do?Heeeeeeelp meeeeee!!!

But he have gone back to Cyprus. The only way I can request a contract is via e-mail.I dont want to be bully with him.He asked me a certificate of being qualified to take care of children. Thats why I think that he didnt lie about the contract. I will communicate abou this with my boyfriend and I will write an e-mail to this cyprian manager. Thanx the advice. Then we will see his reaction to my request. But theres another thing which I dont understand. Last summer my boyfriend praxed in Cyprus in the hotel where this man was the manager. My friend hadnt got a contract with him and everything was ok. So a year ago there was no problem with this manager, why will be problem this summer??? So my friend tried out him and he was ok.
