Republic of Cyprus is OK............Sometimes!

Just dont expect any help or protection from the Police when exposed to organised crime, even more so when theres a 'bent' copper involved.

To their credit at least the forces of whats laughingly called Law and Order here do not discriminate between Cypriot and Non-Cypriot when it comes to finding 'no evidence of a crime having been commited'. All very surprising when your Cypriot neighbour is in hospital with his head split open like a ripe water melon and another neighbour has had her front door doused in petrol as a warning.

Maybe Spain is better, I dont know! but if your coming to live here keep well away from urban Cyprus and stick to the smaller villages where civil society is maintained to a high standard by peer pressure and a good hiding for those who seek to make a misery of the lives of others.

If you keep to yourself and away from organized crime it should be fine. I dont think they come after you just for fun. Its the same everywhere.

No they dont come after you just for fun, they come for what they can take.
In my case and that of my neighbours what was wanted was our homes, the criminals certainly had no intention of buying them from us!

As for staying away from organised crime the choice is not always yours to make.
Far from being protected by officers of the law we found that they were a major part of the problem advising us that it would be in our best interests not to make trouble for their alternative employers.

Anyway its not my kids who are getting their 'fix' from these people or any of my daughters that are being forced into prostitution. I can afford to wait while somebody elses relative overdoses gets beaten up or worse and then watch with grim satisfaction while society beats its breast about what is happening here!

I find the people in Spain really nice and friendly, specially in the south (like Almeria). The problem is, not everybody talks english, not even an average one, that could be problem. And well about the property price, is high, true, but this happens mostly in the big cities like Madrid or Barcelona. In the south you can find the cheapest ones I think.
