GPRS/WAP Cytavoda

Postby Newformz » Fri Mar 10, 2006 5:10 pm

Does anyone know if its possible to get free gprs/wap here in Cyprus? When i was in UK i used to get free browsing & downloading on o2 & vodafone. But i cant seem to get it free here. I have searched everywhere on the net & cyta but there is no answer that i can find. Now that cyta is a partner with Vodafone i thought things might get better. I dont use vodafone live as its shite, i use opera mini to browse 'the real internet' using my Sony Ericsson W800i.

Was just wondering if there is anyone that may of got this or know anything about it etc?

Cheers. :?

Unfortunately CYTA-VODA does not offer free Internet via GPRS. You need to have an ISP provider and configure your GPRS accordingly. On the other hand areeba offers internet via GPRS and also has some data bundles that with a 30 pound fixed cost per month you can browse unlimited. If you have a 3G phone and live in a town then expect to get upt to 384kbps with the same price, in other areas where 3G is not available you will get the standard GPRS speed which vary depending on your handset. In areas where there is no areeba coverage you can still use GPRS through roaming with CYTA without any extra cost but is slower because of the outdated GPRS capability of CYTA.

Ok so are you saying IT IS possible to just browse using gprs on my phone for free? I sold my Nokia 6680 3G phone just before i came here as i did not think it would be available here so i just got my W800i to use gprs and its a great phone anyway. I live in Assomatos Village, Limassol so i aint gona get no 3G there. I just cant believe how far they are behind here, when i went to the tokyo electronics show they now have 200meg broadband!!! All cyta needs is to team up with a big communication company to take off and to get more computers/technology out there to the people.

CYTA is not the only telecommunications company in Cyprus my friend. It is state owned but that does not mean it is the best... It is a very slow organisation and in general their products are very outdated. Check with primetel to see if their optical fibre network can reach your area. As for GPRS/3G call the areeba helpline they are having a special offer on 3G/GPRS PCMCIA data cards and unlimited bundle now... it is a very good solution if you cannot have broadband in your area.
