Hi, my 7 year old daughter goes to AA in Limassol and absolutely loves it, great teachers, teaches good values and a lovely family atmosphere. Just so you know, the price ranges from, most expensive, Foleys, Logos, Heritage, American Academy and then St Marys which is a school that is hard to get in. (I think thats the right order anyway, I know Foleys is def the most expensive tho)

No, I have heard that it used to be all girls but not any more. I believe too that it is very good for languages but know of many people who have children there and I have never heard anyone saying anything bad about it. It must be okay for it to be so hard to get into.

Cyprus based english schools are super competitive high pressure environments. Alot of kids attend after school tuition in Maths, English, Music, basket weaving , swahili, yoga and bloody everything.

I went to a private english school for a year when my Parents made an attempt to move the family to Cyprus. I found the full-on curriculum overwhelming at first but soon settled in and found far superior to the very laid back hippy system we have in Australia.

When I returned to school in Australia I was way ahead of my class mates- especially in maths and the sciences.

thanks for the info Lynne.

agios, i dont think that kids in private schools get after school tuition in math or english.
perhaps for sports or music or any other leisure activities.

its one of the main purpose to send your kid to a private school - to avoid after school tuition, that kids in public schools have to go through.

Of course they get after school tuition in everything they need if they are not doing excellent :)
Thats the point of paying all that money. We have been talking about coming over also, and I will need to find out sooner or later which the best school is.

In AA, there are a variety of free clubs for an hour after school closing time, a choice of homework club which is available every day or clubs such as dance, needlework or cookery or sports. I have not heard of any extra clubs in specific subjects but am sure help would be given if the child needed it in some way or other. The advantage of sending the kids private is that they make them work, work, work from a young age and have detailed homework with extra at weekends or holidays. Compared to a neighbours child who goes to Greek school, my daughter and her class are way ahead in terms of learning both Greek and English as the neighbours child has told me even though she is almost eight, a lot of time is spent playing!! I do agree that a big point is that you don't have to pay for extra tuition in major subjects when you pay for education, it seems unbelievable to me that most children do attend these extra lessons in Cyprus so therefore it says a lot about the standard opf education in Greek schools doesn't it?

There are such clubs, I am aware of two schools in Cyprus which have Amateur Radio clubs, one of them beeing the English School in Nicosia which offers to its students 1000s of pound of equipment to use and to prepare for the Amateur Radio exams.
