Thomson backs down on North Boycot

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Thomson backs down on North Boycot

Postby bg_turk » Sat Mar 04, 2006 5:55 pm

A NORTH Cyprus tourism company this week succeeded in persuading UK travel giant Thomson to put its brochures back on shelves, just a week after pressure from the Cyprus Tourist Organisation (CTO) apparently forced Thomson to take them down.

“This is a poke in the eye for the CTO. For years they have succeeded in blocking promotion of north Cyprus, but this time they have come in second,” Managing Director of Paradise Holidays Alan Suleyman told the Cyprus Mail yesterday.

The reinstatement of Cyprus Paradise’s brochures onto the shelves of 773 Thomson branches across the UK came after a 10-day row that saw Suleyman threaten the CTO and Thomson with legal action.

unlucky, cto losers!

very good. But of course, all this means the end for tourism in the south! (if you believe greek economists)

and we are talking about a country that has not worked out the concept of economies of scale or depreciation yet.

maybe in another 70 years. Siga Siga.

Who exactly are you pumpernickle and if you really hate the GC so much why are you living in Larnaca?

Oh, and before you talk about Cyprus' economy with a divided island and less than 1 million people, why don't you spare a thought for Turkey's...what's her excuse?

Didn't know Turkey gained the plaudits of being named a 'she'. Interesting. Next time a blob of land earns the epithet of a gender, do let me know, I'll try and match make her, I'm quite good at that.

Regarding hating GC's, would be keen to learn how you came to that conclusion. What with my post being full of evident mirth and light heartedness....I fail to see where my hate lies.

So if someone laughs at the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, then that means they hate Greeks? A bit like saying that an enemy of the Schweppes drinks company PLC is obviously an anti-Zionist terrorist and a hater of Jews who deserves the Chair. Nice link. You should go into law. Cretin.

I love arguing with people on Cyprus forum. It's like going to a clay pigeon shooting gallery, where instead of the targets being fired into the sky, they are placed onto the ground, and you are given a blunderbuss, 30 minutes and several rounds with which to eliminate them from a distance of 2 metres.

No but you support the tourism of occupied areas. There they use our hotels or hotels build on land taken with the invasion from GCs. You support that?

Funny guy.

Yes, Turkey is classed as a fem in Greek as well. Living in Cyprus, this shouldn't come as a surprise to you.

I came to the conclusion that you hate GC from your lack of support for an organisation that is trying to protect the country's economy and at the same time limit the flow of cash to the people who now occupy half the island. I would have thought it would perhaps be a bit more patriotic to feel just a bit upset that holidays are freely advertised in the north?

Not taking yourself too seriously is cool, but surely you can find a better place to shoot proverbial clay pigeons for the fun of it. I mean let's face it you haven't exactly hit on the most humourous topic to unleash your mirth at. I guess bg_turk was also full of understandable mirth when he posted his caption, being not the least bit patriotic in doing so.

But all well and good a guess, I'll bare your light heartedness in mind next time a stumble on one of your posts.

i fail to see one positive move that the CTO has implemented to help further and progress Cypriot tourism.

Please give one example.

Well to be fair they have plastered video ads all over CNN labelling Cyprus as "The Island For All Seasons"..... though I must say it is abysmally disappointing considering 90% of the screen area is white, with a little letterbox slip where one can actually see Cyprus..... very ineffective, doesn't make one any more interested.... unlike those Malaysia ads, that song is stuck in everyones heads

I dont thik trying to get the yanks to travel 4,000 miles to a med island is a good idea. They prefer mexico or the caribbean. you know what yanks are like. If it means having to get a passport, they have an aneurism brought on by a fear of adopting anti-patriotic sentiments....

the idea of a yank leaving his back yard is still considered communist out there.

unless it's to jump in the nearest mig and flatten some dust bowl in the middle east. gotta use up them past-sell-by-date missilies and rockets some how.

Would you leave a pack of sausages in the fridge to rot if they have a day left on the packaging, and they are just waiting to get sizzled in the pan and munched.

extra ketchup and chips please. Mmmmmmm.

You can get CNN in Europe also pumpernickle. The best ad is for red sea riviera of Egypt. That ad claims sunshine every single day of the year  That would be an exaggeration even for their Sahara desert!
