E.U WILL PAY TO GET WHAT IT WANTS IN CYPRUS

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Maybe this plan was a lost opportunity for some that would gain from it, but this does not include the great majority of Greek Cypriots.

It wasn't a perfect plan and I'm sure it'll be back on the table again at some point. But it was a lost opportunity for peaceful coexistence of both communities where no one side dominates the other, that's for sure. The first GC refugees would be returning back to Varosha according to the plan by now. The plan made sure that no one side dominated the other so of course it wasn't a lost opportunity for you because you like what you have in the south (total control of the government and international affairs of Cyprus), you're just looking for ways to extend it to all over the island.

The plan provided for equality of the two communities. This is unacceptable to many GC's including of course the present government. The government is looking for equality of the individual person but this will never be accepted by the TC community. This is a fact. Also, we cannot make them accept it. We don't have the means. What's wrong with equality of the communities, you might ask. Let the nationalists in this forum answer this question.

It was a partition plan and it was a lost opportunity for those that want to legalize their illegal actions.

it wasn't a lost opportunity for you because you like what you have in the south (total control of the government and international affairs of Cyprus), you're just looking for ways to extend it to all over the island.

I am asking for democracy. Do you know what democracy is?

Give to the Greek Cypriots that are still living in the north what you are asking from us. (veto power, president every second term etc). Why don't you do that if you think this is what democracy means?

Lets suppose that "TRNC" was an independent state. Would you consider it fair to give to your Greek Cypriot minority what you are asking from us to give up?
If you do then the Cyprus problem is solved:
Two separate countries: One Greek Cypriot, and then one North Cyprus Federation consisting of two component states a TC component state of 70% of land, and a GC component state of 30% of land. The GC minority in north will have a veto power, a president every second term etc. Would you agree?

The fact that a TC will have 4.5 more voting power from a GCs is a discrimination that only the racists of this forum can not realize.

What is wrong is that this means the end of democracy. That may not be bad for fascists but it is very bad for people that believe in democracy.

What the heck are you talking about Piratis? Was it legal when Makarios proposed the changes to the 3 year old Constitution of the RoC? Will you never realise that political problems can only be solved by political decisions? Do you really beleive that our problem will be solved in a court of law?

Since when it is illegal to propose changes to the constitution? It happens all the time in all democratic countries.

Will you never realize that political problems can only be solved by political decisions?

I never argued for the opposite did i? We need to solve the problem, not just close it. If a thief steals something the solution is to catch the thief and make him give back what he stole, not to pass a law that says that stealing is legal.

The Annan plan didn't solve the Cyprus problem. If it did I would have voted for it.

Do you hear this Insan? Makarios just proposed the changes. You could have said "no thanks, we are not interested" and all would have been as they were ...

I am begining to feel sympathetic towards Piratis.

We all know that the proposals which had been made by Makarios weren't just for making the Cyprus constitution fairer. We all know that in 1963, Makarios had already lined up with Enosists. The year he publicly declared that Enosis wasn't realistic anymore, is 1967. Though it's questionable whether he was honest or not because in 1967, as a consequence of the events of 1963-67 period and illegal actions of Enosists under command of Grivas, Turkey had decided to intervene. Therefore US had interfered and Turkey had given up the idea of intervening militarily.

Then Klerides and Denktash began to negotiate in order to find a solution. Except the local autonomy issue, all other issues had almost been solved and no serious intercommunal violance had taken place between the years 1967 till 1971. The fear of Turkey's intervention and US political pressure on Greece government had resulted with a 4 years lasted peace and democrasy period. Even though the intercommunal strife had been surpassed; unfortunately couldn't have been reversed.

PS: When I return to Cyprus I'll make a deep research concerning the 1967-71 and 71-74 period. I'm sure there are detailed and useful information on daily newspapers of that era.

In 1971 Grivas secretly returned to Cyprus and formed the terrorist organization EOKA-B in order to overthrow Makarios and achieve Enosis with a fait a'ccompli.

Shortly to say, the constitutional ammendmet proposals of Makarios weren't just for making RoC more functional and fairer but also had been based on "How can we achieve Enosis by misleading the world in favour of Hellens and against the Turks."

Even today there are some Greeks and GCs who follow the same policy for the second step of Enosis: :Hellen dominated Cyprus aka Hellenization of Cyprus.

And there are also some Turks and TCs who follow the same policy in order to mislead the world in favour of Turks, against the Hellens to achieve second step of Taksim: A seperate Turkish state on North of the Island.

But since all these informations has been skipped by Enosist minded GC officials and concealed from the GCs ; youngsters like Piratis are normally unaware of the essentials of the facts. Piratis doesn't want to read and learn anything other than what Enosists have provided to him. In my opinion, mainly that's why he generally talks as a one sided ignorant...

If I am the one sided ignorant, then you are the "other sided" ignorant.

Makarios made proposals that would make the constitution better.
Actually Kuchuk said he would think about them, but soon after Turkey rejected them and TCs used this as an excuse to start the problems. Their aim was since then partition, and we all know that.
