I got an issue.

im leaving cyprus for a bit because me and my housemate are not getting on at all.

hes staying.

i want my half of the deposit back now

You think if i goto him and say look.. hes staying here for the rest of the lease .. im off back home and im completly skint.

i dont think so deathstar.
Trouble is youre leaving and so effectivly are stopping rent payments for your half leaving your flatmate to incure the full rent cost unless he gets someone else in.
If he gets someone else into the flat it may be likely you will get your deposit back.
If he doesnt, then am afraid you have lost it, the whole idea of chraging deposits is to safeguard the premises against unpaid for damage, as well as situations like yours.

i feel for ya deathstar, but overall id advise you put the whole thing to bed, and just pack up and make like a tree and get oudda there.

get that motor and drive across europe and have the time o' ya life.

The deposit is in case there are some damages in the apartment. If so far there are no damages then I think it is fair if you ask from your friend to give your share back.
