homebuyers pressure group

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby djtrax98 » Fri Mar 03, 2006 2:11 pm

That makes perfect sense. The wya something is worded will decide on how it is interpreted.
Agrred i understand your points now.
Maybe as a n addition to your statement might i add a way of carrying this through possibly through a timeframe whereby the island is divided into sections or frames each one allowing the people that live within it to make the neccesary relocations within the time frame.
So gradually over a period of lets say 4-5 years complete relocations will take place and only minor adjustments will be needed to resettle everyone.
That would be the perfect both party sided compromise. Its a viable solution well done alexis!

Hi Michael

Are you suggesting that TC who have taken GC land should be treated differently from Europeans who have? I am afraid Mr EU will not allow you to do that.

Michael wrote:Alexis and djtrax. The discussion has now grown from appalling outsiders buying property in the North to ballooning into the whole property issue. I think if our problems are taken step by step then they do not get lost in the swampy morass. Can we all agree that these Brits, Germans etc have absolute NO settlement rights? There properties must be confiscated and returned to the lawful owners?
The Turkish Cypriots are a completely different matter.

Noone is disagreeing with you about the properties that are bought by overseas investors.
However confiscating their properties and returning them to their rightful land owners would be near enough impossible, as Alexis says all the different land transactions that have taken place over the years makes that near enough impossible. Also any land owned by people who are now deceased with no next of kin and unspecified ownership will also make that impossible. Confiscating land which is within self proclaimed territory as is the north, who has the backing of a superpower like turkey will make what you are suggesting an incredibly difficult job which would drag on through the courts (As it has done) for years and years and years.
Any ideas on how to combat any ways of doing what Micahel has suggested?

this is a group of people that have broken the law

I wonder if you could inform us just exactly what law you are referring too?

Hopefully the following illustration will enlighten you.

1. Mr Greek lives in a House

2. Mr Turk comes to Mr Greek’s house and violently evicts him

3. Mr Turk lives in Mr Greek’s house; however Mr Turk is pretty useless at providing for himself so he needs money

4. Mr England walks buy and Mr Turk offers to sell Mr Greek’s House very cheaply. After all Mr Turk needs too feed his little brood.

5. Mr England buys Mr Greek’s House from Mr Turk.

6. However one day Mr England swears at a Mr Little Turk and Mr Little Turk knifes Mr England in the chest.

Now Steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 in any modern civilized society is ILLEGAL. Step 6 is probably natural justice.
Now do you understand?

Mr Greek start to kill all turks

Mr turk responds by sending support

Mr greek retreats to south of island having lost the armed struggle

Mr turk live happy times in the north now he and his friends nt being murdered .

Mr greek crys and whinges and whines to the rest of the world 30 years of isolation imposed on mr turk

Mr england decides enough lets support mr turk buy land renovate old houses send tourists

YET AGAIN MR GREEK CRYS AND WAILS TO ANY ONE THAT WILL LISTEN

Listen: Many TCs have been uprooted more than once in the last 40-50 years - do you think they'd like it to happen again?

For the last 32 years they have lived in peace and grown families and businesses in the north. Do you think they want give up all that to go to an unfamiliar place where they and their children are foreigners - and to have to rebuild a property and then start allover with their lives again?

And this whole discussion about the foreign buyers is a red herring. LESS than 1% of the island has been sold to them. That leaves more than 99% for everyone to squabble over.

Anybody who thinks that the only reason there hasn't been a solution is because some pensioners from England have bought a few villas is sadly deluded.

Fact is that a huge proprtion of GCs could have gone back to their properties if they'd voted for the Aplan...
