this is a group of people that have broken the law

I wonder if you could inform us just exactly what law you are referring too?

Hopefully the following illustration will enlighten you.

1. Mr Greek lives in a House

2. Mr Turk comes to Mr Greek’s house and violently evicts him

3. Mr Turk lives in Mr Greek’s house; however Mr Turk is pretty useless at providing for himself so he needs money

4. Mr England walks buy and Mr Turk offers to sell Mr Greek’s House very cheaply. After all Mr Turk needs too feed his little brood.

5. Mr England buys Mr Greek’s House from Mr Turk.

6. However one day Mr England swears at a Mr Little Turk and Mr Little Turk knifes Mr England in the chest.

Now Steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 in any modern civilized society is ILLEGAL. Step 6 is probably natural justice.
Now do you understand?

WHO IS DISAGREEING WITH YOU? BUT WHY BE SO BITTER ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME WHEN WILL YOU REALISE THAT YOUR BITTERNESS IS STOPPING YOU AND CYPRUS IN GENERAL FROM MOVING FORWARD WITH THIS PROBLEM?
YOU HAVE GOT TO SWAP YOUR HATRED AND BITTERNESS FOR OPTIMISM AND COMPROMISE OR YOU WILL TAKE YOURSELF AND YOUR COUNTRY TO THE GRAVE WITH YOU.
YOU HAVE SAID THE ABOVE A MILLION TIMES ON THIS FORUM. FOR ONCE INSTEAD FO SLANGING, WHY NOT SUGGEST A COMPROMISED SOLUTION WHICH YOU THINK IS SUITABLE FOR THE PROBLEM AND LETS DEBATE ON THAT?
KEY WORD 'DEBATE' IF YOU LOOK IT UP IT HAS A DIFFERENT MEANING TO THE WORD 'ATTACK' IN EVERY DICTIONARY ON THE PLANET.

Are you being completely naïve? This posting deals specifically with N. Europeans that have illegally bought land in the North. Let me say it again, with these scum there is no compromise. They should go home forthwith, if they step foot in the R.O.C they should be arrested, tried and thrown in jail for the common criminals that they are. If we compromise with these scums now then what chance do we have with the Turks.
The moderator should not have allowed them to advertise their vile group. It’s an insult to all refugees.

ok, but this website is not meant solely for the use of greek cypriots or their associates mate.
However for a solution to be found it must be befitting for both sides, they are not just gonna leave the island and allow you to return to your home.
They will not do that dont you understand?
So sentiments aside what do you think is an amicable settlement plan regarding the re settlement of the north by refugees and the resettle, ent of the turkish cypriots within cyprus (NOT turkish as they can return tho their land as a means of compromise)?
Honestly what would you say SENTIMENTS ASIDE?

I have been clear; the Northern Europeans who have illegally bought property in the North cannot be part of any solution to this country’s problem. Even that awful Anan Plan does not recognize their rights, why should we. The problem is complex enough without including the likes of the Omans into the mix.

Look no solution will ever be found if insolvency is framed as the framework for this problem.
Be constructive what would you think would make a good realistic solution??

djtrax98,

In my opinion the damage has already been done, and most of it is I'm afraid to say irreversible. For me (and I hope refugees do not take offernse at this), it is going to be almost impossible for all refugees to return to their original properties. There have been too many land transactions to make this possible, not to mention the numbers of settlers. Similarly in the South, many TC villages have been neglected or expropriated by the state. What can be done though is to give all refugees right of return to their villages. So far I have yet to hear a convincing argument as to why this cannot be possible or indeed that it is unreasonable. What I strongly feel should be acknowledged, however, is that this stance is already a compromise by GCs. By acknowledging that we cannot simply chuck the present occupants out of refugee property just like that it should be recognised that we are actually compromising for unity with the North. Not giving all refugees the right to return to their native areas (not necessarily their original homes) if they so wish is in my view not a unified country.

I agree with you totally Alexis, it is a huge problem but i am glad to see someone posting within these threads with constructive debate rather than patriotic it really does make all the difference.
Ok,so let me just clarify: when you say give all refugees a right of return to their villages do you mean the TC refugees or our refugees from the south to return to the north?

Both, although it must be said that some of the TC villages in the south have been derelict since 1963, so they would have to be rebuilt. I'm not certain of the state of GC villages in the north, from what I have heard most have been occupied by residents. The state of the villages is a different issue though, my main point is that refugees should have the option of returning to their villages, either to their original houses or (if it is not possible) to a house they build with some form of compensation. The key is that everyone who is Cypriot will have the right to settle anywhere in Cyprus. Going back to what I said about compromise, the reason I believe this is more of a compromise for GCs than TCs (even though both communities have refugees), goes back to numbers. Now I realise GCs bang on about the numbers a little too much, but the fact remains that in 1974 Turkey took more land than was necessary to accomodate the TC population. Now I'm not saying we should go back and analyse the reasons why and whether it was fair or not etc...I'm simply saying that it should be acknowledged that the net impact with regards displaced persons has been on the GC community. This has made the question of right of return particularly important to GCs.

Alexis and djtrax. The discussion has now grown from appalling outsiders buying property in the North to ballooning into the whole property issue. I think if our problems are taken step by step then they do not get lost in the swampy morass. Can we all agree that these Brits, Germans etc have absolute NO settlement rights? There properties must be confiscated and returned to the lawful owners?
The Turkish Cypriots are a completely different matter.
