How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby bakala » Wed Mar 15, 2006 11:27 pm

This thread gets better all the time guys

Reading Alexis and Rawk is like watching two Expert Surgeons trying to save the same patient.
Now and again someone comes in the theatre and shoots another hole in the patient

But these guys just keep Patching up the holes and debating how to get him on his feet again,

Like two different medicines no good unless both are taken

You Guys are the Cure

Bakala,

I hope I am not shooting a hole in the patient, I am merely rubbing the sweat off the surgeons forehead, as seen on many hospital theatre scenes on TV and giving them encouragement that the patient can still be saved.

MrFromNG...so why dont the powers that be halt the land developments on GC refugee land? RoC has a body set up to deal with Turkish Cypriot land and there is not a lot of development on these properties. Yes you may have part of Larnaca built on TC land but a large majority of Turkish Cypriot land only has developments for GC refugees to live on. RoC recognises such land as belinging to TC and there are not many commercial developments on such land. If these foreign investors know that they are buliding on GC refugee land, well is their fault for doing so if this land is rightfully returned to the owner. Just because there is development on GC refugee land, it NOW WAY means that the land should go to the illegal developer..they KNEW the land was GC owned.
I also think we have every right to push for a fairer settlement than the Annan plan and should be able to change 'what is on the table now'.

Bakala...i meant Eastenders on TV does not refelct life in London and seems more like the outskirts of Essex. What makes me laugh about Eastenders is that all the people of ethnic minorities have some kind of issues, like being criminals, lesbians, lead undesirable family lives or are generally over sterotyped.

You have a strong point there, the reality on the ground is changing swiftly in the north. New and powerful vested interests are becoming involved, many that are foreign development companies from outside Europe with strong political influence and powerful financial backing. As events move forward into this century, national identity and association will cease in favour of political influence from utility suppliers. The point being, where do you obtain your gas, electricity and oil from, the suppliers will call the shots. These companies are global and care not for national sensitivities.

Any government must look to its peoples's interests and in the harsh world of international politics, the interests of that government in international finance will be the accommodation of an development company with global international interests over the waning rights of Greek villagers from some 30 to 40 years before. As the years go by, priorities change, land as a concept changes from orchards and pastures to new homes and development sites. The landscape of 1974 north Cyprus is starting to become unrecognizable in 2006. The empty spaces aree becoming the homes of foreign investers from around the globe, not just the UK, and they have international clout.
Time is running out... If you care, lobby for negotiation, events are moving faster than the political will. Try and save some of what has been lost...

Sorry mate i missunderstood your previous comments

While we are on the subject, dont you know the formula for TV now ?
most of the producers and directors are queer, about 50% of the actors are either queer or lesbian
Its very rare for anyone to get in on the TV bandwagon who is completely Normal

So they dont appear to have a racial Bias they, must also have one of each colour in the cast
we now have the situation where we have two young women one white and one black acting out Lesbian scenes at around eight o clock in the evening
At this time of night which is suppposed to be family time. No programs where there is any swearing are allowed to be aired ( in case we currupt our kids ) yet a completely unatural and forbiden by religion lesbian relationship is allowed in all its sickening detail,

At this years Oscars in America the leading contender for best film was reputed to be the one about two Queer Cowboys ?

What the hell are we teaching our kids ?

maybe its me that has old fashioned values, perhaps i am wrong. But to make the obscene seem so natural does no good for our future society, it becomes acceptable for a man to kiss a man or woman woman, Surely this is political correctness gone mad or am i wrong ? comments please ?

True freedom has a hidden price,
for you to have it . everyone must have it. otherwise its just a dream you hold
For if you deny it to others, someday you will wake and realise that the dream has gone with the waking

By the way the other 50% of the actors who are not queer or lesbian are either drug addicts or child molesters,
i wouldnt want them to think they were being left out :)

Simon
your insistance that "they" remove their identity and you retain yours doesent exactly seem fair.
your insistance that only "your " goverment is the only legal one only seems to stoke the fires that burn for permanent partition and not unity.

If someday the Turkish Cypriots came back under control of the " legal Goverment as you call it " how long before they had to adopt " your religion "

Simon there is no contradiction. The TRNC is not recognised as an independent state by anyone that is what i am saying and therefore the reason why i can understand why they have the Turkish flag flying. I also said that i didnt agree with it but can see the reasons why they have it.

The ROC is recognised by the rest of the world as an independent state. Thats the difference its nothing to do with heritage its about independence.
There is also the visual impact, you cant see 40000 troops you can see evidence of them being here. You can see the flags almost everywhere.

The flags are not a minor point, it is very significant. If you see a Greek or a Turkish flag flying on whatever side of the Green Line how are Cypriots supposed to feel Cypriot. The biggest problem Cypriots face is the lack of a feeling of Cypriotness if all Cypriots felt patriotic towards Cyprius then the troops would not be here. But as long as the Turkish Cypriots feel patriotic towards Turkey and the Greek Cypriots feel more patriotic towards Greece then there will always be problems.

Hopefully settlement talks will start this year. Cypriots at this point will have a chance to create their own patriotism which they can pass down to there kids, grandkids in the way that Cypriots today have missed out on.

You are misunderstanding me. I am arguing against anyone removing their identity. It seems to be you that is advocating this. I am merely pointing out that if you support this view, your first aim should be to prevent TCs and illegal settlers calling any part of Cyprus Turkish. Surely this is just common-sense? You are talking about Cyprus being just Cypriot, but until Turkish troops leave, how can they be? Again I repeat, we don't call ourselves the Greek Republic of Cyprus do we? Until the TC side do this, then how can we not move ourselves closer to Greece? You seem to be saying that all Greek Cypriots should give up being Greek while the North can continue calling itself Turkish just because it is not internationally recognised. What difference does that make? The north is still independent whether others recognise it or not. So this argument does not really make sense.

I have said that our government is the only legal one because it is. This is not an opinion but fact. Your last comment is folly. When I say our government, I don't mean that it will only be made up of Greek Cypriots if reunification takes place, of course it would also be made up of TCs aswell, and they wouldn't have to change their religion or anything else. The only reason there are not TCs in the RoC government is because they refuse to take part in preference of the occupation in the north.

The flags are a minor issue because all it shows is a recognition of your heritage. In Britain, I see Pakastani, Indian, American flags etc, but this does not mean they want to take over the country - nor does it mean they do not feel patriotic towards Britain also. It is laughable is a sense that you say, how can people feel Cypriot with the Greek flags, BUT HOW THE HELL CAN PEOPLE FEEL CYPRIOT WHEN ONE PART OF CYPRUS IS CALLED TURKISH AND WITH 40,000 TURKISH TROOPS IN CYPRUS. The issue is the occupation. What does it matter if you can't see the troops, you know that they are there. This seems a biased view to take.

Rawk, the horse has bolted. There is nothing that I or the likes of me can do now. The greedy developers have had a taste of making easy money and there is no stopping them now. This is something you the GC's have to address ASAP.

I know the Annan plan is not the ideal for you guys but I am sure with a bit of fine tuning it can be workable. The general public in the north are just as angry with the situation as you guys are. Building are popping up everywhere like bloody mushrooms. There is no infrastructure, no planning and no proper surveys carried out on most projects. God knows what will happen to most of these buildings in the event of an earthquake.

So in essence the GC's not only messed things up for themselves with their desire for ENOSIS but in the process have messed it up for the vast majority of the TC's too.

I believe the onus is on the GC's to end all this nonsense now. That of course is if your Mr Papadopulous will get off his high horse and face reality.
