Mr P, you’re back from your little sojourn with your Turkey boys. I do mean Turkey boys. You must be exhausted.
Anyway why do you keep cranking out the same old tripe? Nobody gives two hoots what a failed expat Gollum look-alike thinks. This is especially true, for one who appears to have a pathological hatred of this country. Why don’t you pack your bags and go live in the occupied areas. Then some young Turkey lad walks by, you swear at him, then he knifes you. That is what passes for expat life over there. Good

What a refreshing thought. NO PROBLEM

I hear it every time I ask a workman if he can do the job.

His reply?? No Problem. Then he botches it.

Both sides of the green line.

So yeah, what is the problem??

Come, come, Michael, you do care what expats and foreigners think - desparately. That's why you still write "Area inaccessible due to Turkish occupation" on the maps you give out to tourists. And it is also why you make sure every bus tour crossing north has a Greek Cypriot guide spouting propaganda through the bus microphone - in case anyone comes away with the impression that everything seems pretty normal and civilised in the north.

do you know what the biggest problem is?
The biggest problem lies in the fact that 'Greek' Cypriots do not comprehend that 'what has happened has happened' and that there is no going back.
Another problem lies with the old skool chain of thought,'we are the victims they came and took our land'. Yes they did. Yes they uprooted several thousand people and yes they caused misery to thousands of families who to this day dont know what has happened to their loved ones who went off to fight for their country.
and YES the Cypriots are partly to blame.
You see the real problem lies in the fact that Cyprus as a nation will NOT accept to this day that in ANY situation of conflict it is never just one side to blame. You hear too often on the propaganda led tv news on all Cyprus channels that its all Turkeys fault and that we as Cypriots are victims.
What you WONT hear on the news is how the National Guard at the time carried out mass arrests and god knows what other acts against the Turkish people were committed.
I DONT WANT TO GET INTO A SLANGING MATCH WITH ANYBODY ON THIS WEBSITE as i fear some 'patriot' will undoubtably contest what i have writen. I expect nothing less from anyone born or raised in Cyprus with the brainwashed notion that what happened in 1974 was not called for and Cyprus is a 100% blame free victim.
My point?
THE PAST IS GONE. LOOK TO THE FUTURE WITH OPTIMISM. The problem doesnt just lie with Turkey the blame is partly on Cyprus also. Accept that you are now in a position to solve the problem, and COMPROMISE.
Turkey is a powerful nation. They are several times our size, and retain a considerable sizing of our land here in cy.
They wont just get up and leave like everyone in Cyprus is screaming for them to do and give the land back, IT WONT HAPPEN, wakey wakey. As soon as this point is understood and engrained in the hard line THICK political skulls then progress can be made.

As for NeverSayGoodbyes comments about 'British Troops Out, Turkish Out, Problem Solved!'

The British Bases on the island do not bother you in any way shape or form. They bring much needed money into the ecnomy they employ several thousand Cypriot staff. and through various setups with the government they assist in major incidents pulling in all their resources as and when needed.
Who do you thinnk put the great fires of the north out back in the 90's? The Cypriot fire brigade?!?!?!?!? PLEASE.
And who do you think is responsible for saving so many lives each year on our roads, when accidents occur within the SBA'S when the local ambulances turn up an hour after the Bases paramedics have left the scene?
THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK and try to imagine Cyprus without the Bases around. It would be exactly like the UK. Several thousand unemployed, meaning higher benefits being payed out, meaning higher taxes to recoup those benefits. And who pays for those? YOU... Thats just one example.

Its talk like that from people which has pretty much confirmed it from me that there will NEVER be a solution to the problem. Narrow mindedness and stupid propaganda slogans like the ones above will ensure our beautiful island will be forever DIVIDED. All it takes is a little compromise but it seems that all efforts are going into the 'ANTI' Turkish and British useless debates. Look at Matsakis our GLORIOUS representative to the European Union.
Need I Say More?
AND BEFORE ANYONE DECIDES TO GET SMART ON ME LIKE THEY DID WITH PUMPERNICKLE.
I UNDERSTAND GREEK.
I am English Cypriot who was born and brought up in Cyprus. I love my country and i have been brought up to accept that no side is totally to blame that there are wrongs and rights on both sides.
If Only everyone was brought up like my dear mother and father raised me.
Perhaps i would be sitting in Varoshia now sipping on a keo instead of Ayia Napa Harbour.

djtrax - thank you.

You just opened a window when the stench in here was getting unbearable.

I hope there are more of you. If not, may you have many, many children.

Hi djtrax98,

First off, don't worry, I am not here to slag off your post, I will just make some comments. I agree with much of what you say, Greek Cypriots need to understand that it is not just they who are the victims of this whole mess and also that they are not blameless. I also understand that you live in the south and so can see the glaring incongruence in the press with regards the Cyprus Problem, please be assured though that the press in the North, and more importantly the press in Turkey is just as biased. Of course we need to negotiate with the Turkish Cypriots which necessitates compromise with Turkey but please recognise at least that negotiation with Turkey does not come easily to many GCs. You imply that all the missing persons were combatants when this is not 100% the case. Many GC and TC civilians were killed in cold blood in 1974 and in the previous years. The majority of those GC civilians killed were killed by the Turkish Army in 1974 and this is what makes it very hard for GCs to accept Turkey's involvement in all of this.
Compromise with the TCs by all means, but given the circumstances some degree of leveraging against Turkey and its accession to the EU is the only means of reaching a fair settlement for the island. This does not mean we declare war diplomatically with Turkey, simply that we maintain as hard a line with her. As a guarantor for Cyprus, Turkey has failed miserably.
As for the British bases, I think you are more or less spot on. I don't think though that the majority of Cypriots are that bothered by the everyday presence of the bases, what bothers most is the circumstances under which these bases were established.

But you will remain forever handicapped if you see Turkey as the demon and the TCs as somehow above the fray. Everyone was involved and everyone commited crimes and suffered. Until you move away from the blaming game you will move not an inch.

djtrax98, just like the one who made this thread you don't give a damn about Cyprus.
You could just as easily live in the UK the rest of your life. Isn't it? You would do everything to avoid serving in the army. Did you serve?

If Only everyone was brought up like my dear mother and father raised me.

They raised you how? To accept the violations of the human rights of others? Yeah, congratulations to them

I would like to see how you would react if your rights and your property were stolen.
