Call me a cynic but I suspect:

“I have no doubt that EAC is prioritising the sale of its own supply over self-generated power”

hits the nail on the head. :(

The system is flawed! You should be able to power your own needs directly instead of this scam whereby the EAC steals your energy and becomes the dictator of whether or not you’ll benefit from it!

Every year, they’ll be playing more and more games and you’ll be making an ever-decreasing return as more and more houses hook up to this bad scheme and the EAC wastes more and more of this stolen energy prioritizing their own profits!

Two years ago they were bragging (read falsely advertising) that you’d break even in 3-4 years, the following year they were claiming 4-5 years, and now (today) they’re admitting that it’ll be in 5-6 years!

“Calm and patience is required for owners of photovoltaic household systems”

By the way things are going… by the time you break even your setup will need replacement!

Yeah but…………….. I was gonna save the planet. :(

It still makes a big difference. My Nov/Dec bill last year was €340. This year’s €50. Nevertheless, self sufficiency was the aim of course.

So far, they’ve always cut me off at 10am. Then back on between 2-4. Which is handy, as you can at least plan your consumption accordingly.

This is a scandal and incompetence at the highest levels.

it is to my understanding that it is a legal requirement for residential solar power systems to be tied in to the grid with net metering.

Maybe I am wrong but you cant even store your won energy production with your own battery for personal use.

I read recently that if you replace an old type light bulb with a low energy one, on average you reduce the power used to an eighth. Moreover, if you use a renewable energy source that further reduces the environmental impact (and cost) by a factor of two thirds. You’d think that sort of logic would be impossible to refute. :?

It’s hard not to conclude that vested interests are at play. Be it EAC profits or the big fossil fuel boys.

FWIW, the Chinese seem to be throwing everything they have at transitioning to green.
