Sigma Poll

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Sigma Poll

Postby Piratis » Wed Oct 13, 2004 11:18 pm

They had an interesting survey at Sigma TV tonight (made by Cyprus college).

Here are some interesting results:

1) Only 5% changed their mind regarding their referendum vote.

2) If the Annan plan come again with no significant changes but with warranties about its execution, 61% would vote "no" and 32% would vote "yes".

3) 61% agrees with the way Papadopoulos handles the Cyprus problem, 31% disagrees.

The point is that bringing the Annan plan to referendum again to the GC's with security guarantees will mean we will still vote no.

The fundamentals of that plan are wrong therefore it needs to take the proper concerns of the GC's before we could accept it.

It simply shows that the US, UK etc are trying to force this plan on us rather than take our concerns into account.

I don't think that they're forcing you to do anything. Afterall, if you say no, you say no and nothing happens. But I really don't want a plan that is accepted by, say 51%, of all Cypriots. A plan can live if at least 65-70% of all Cypriots accept it or at least can live with it.

Yes only a large majority vote of minimum 80% is just about good enough.

80% of Cypriots all together, or 80% of Greek Cypriots + 80% of Turkish Cypriots. If you mean the second I believe its just a dream.

the first one holds more ground as if the majority do not agree then there is no hope.

Obtaining 80% of Cypriots is very easy. Make up a plan that GCs would love, and you would get 80% approval. I'm not suggesting 80% of GCs + 80% of TCs either. Something along the lines of 65% of GCs + 65% of TCs.

As long as we get a majority vote on both sides then there is no reason for it to fail in the future.

At least 2/3 seperate majority vote from both sides would be kewl... And most probably this will be something which both sides nationalists haven't been satisfied and voted no. In this case, guess what their reactions and political stance would be...
