Here we go, the revolution has started in earnest.

Apple manufacturers its iPhone in China, which has been hit with a staggering 54 percent tax on its imported goods.

The tech giant would likely pass these inflated costs onto the consumer, taking the price of a 256GB iPhone 16 Pro from $1,100 to an eye-watering $3,500, according to Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives.

But that is the whole point of the exercise - to move jobs and profits back to the USA...

Back before I came to Cyprus my company was a key supplier to Motorola - mainly to their cellphone plant in Easterinch, Scotland... I was on-site every week.

Then, without warning Motorola moved the entire plant to China - made 3,200 people redundant in Scotland.

There is literally no reason at all that Apple couldn't move iPhone production back to the 'States to avoid the tariffs...

The tariffs would be peanuts compared to the increased wages and salaries!

The iPhone will now cost $6,000!

Nah, you spunk the money you save on automation and reduce the numbers of humans required... We were working on 'Lights Out' factories 25 years ago...

So what’s stopping you from automating the factory in the East while preserving the low wages and salaries?

There’s no such thing as a fully automated 100% labour free factory.

Take Amazon… they have the most sophisticated robotic system in the world, yet they still employ countless humans for many jobs that can’t be automated.

You'd be surprised...

Humans feed the pick-n-place machines with components... You need some qualified engineers to step in when something breaks... Not much more...

Puters do the testing, machine vision checks the displays...

Warehousing... goods in goods out all mostly humans but the rest of the production of a mobile was automated 25 years ago when I was involved...

The Americans are in for a surprise whatever happens. Once prices go up, they never come done with or without extra tariffs. He does not quite realise that the factories in the Far East actually belong to American corporations either fully or by agreement. He is shooting his own backers in the foot.

The only chance they have no is to recover their losses by their share prices recovering which have cost a lot of people a lot of money especially pension funds.

Income Tax, with Tariffs a permanent fixture, will be a thing of the past i suppose.

Income tax is permanent but Tariffs are not RW. Tariffs are generally used to protect local industries and they come and go. Look at EU, there are no tariffs between the member states.

Considering America imports a hell of a lot more from the world than Exports, surely what ever the rest of the world produce can be bought between each other and leave USA out of it. Do not sell or buy anything from them. Is there really anything which USA produces that cannot be got from another country. Even if there is. fuck it, we can do without it.

It is time to tell the yanks to fuck off back to their own country. Close down all their bases.
