"Strovilia"

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

"Strovilia"

Postby BigDutch » Wed Oct 13, 2004 8:38 pm

Quote [UN Security Council Resolution 1331 - December 2000] :
"Urges the Turkish Cypriot side and Turkish forces to rescind the restrictions imposed on 30 June 2000 on the operations of UNFICYP and to restore the military status quo ante at Strovilia;"

Quote [UN Security Council Resolution 1548 - June 2004] :
"Urges the Turkish Cypriot side and the Turkish forces to rescind without delay all remaining restrictions on UNFICYP, and calls on them to restore in Strovilia the military status quo which existed there prior to 30 June 2000;"

No hidden agenda just can't find any information on what the Turkish army to impose restrictions. So what is happening in Strovilia ?

This is just one of the numerous examples where Turkey does not show any good will. It ignores UN resolutions, yet te UN lauds the 'cooperation' of Turkey in trying to solve the Cyprus problem.

As far as I know, Turkey has done nothing to restore the status quo in that area.

We are talking about another "mini invasion". The Turkish army 2-3 years ago moved in and occupied a part of the neutral zone near the strovillia village.

The neutral zone is part of Cyprus that was not occupied by Turkey in 1974, and was given by Republic of Cyprus to be under the control of the UN.

The "restrictions" occured just over 4 years ago. I have read of them in the UN resolutions for for 2 years and assumed people that knew of Cyprus Problem in some detail would know what is happening there.

I`m amazed no-one knows.

I know about this, not from Turkish or TC media but from the GC media. And I admit that this is awful. There's no excuse, there's no explanation to it and what upsets me most is there's no mention of the incident in the TC media.

Turkish military considers the neutral zone as their own. Several times they shot dead unarmed Greek Cypriots just because they passed in the neutral zone.

BigDutch, we know about the Strovilia case.Today we have 37% of Cyprus under occupation. Whats 37.01% compared with 37%. That's what the extension of the occupation at Strovilia done. I think it affected about 10 people.
The UN as usual seem to equalise a mosquito with an elephant? Don't they see the occupation of the 37% and they just see the occupation of a tiny portion over and above that?
