Cyprus bank account ?

Postby charliechoice » Tue Feb 21, 2006 10:48 pm

My wife and I would like to open a joint bank account in Cyprus. Is this a straight forward procedure, and could someone please inform us as to what the normal procedure is.We would like to be able to carry out on-line banking as we couldn check various transactions from the UK.

Regards Charlie.

Hi Charlie,

Opening a bank here is easy - just show passport and deposit some money & that's it.

I use Laiki, which has on-line facilities that are accessible from the UK. I believe a number of banks offer similar facilities.

Banking in Cyprus

Postby Liakada » Thu Feb 23, 2006 10:03 pm

Hello Charlie - Hello Sotos

We opened an account @ Alpha Bank in Paphos.

The staff are friendly, speak excellent English and explain all matters.

If I recall you require usual docs such as Passport, Drivers Licence etc.

We have on line facilities.

I think nowadays this is standard.

It may depend on which branch will be closer to you.

Hope this helps

Remember to sign the form that you are non-resident (if you are) and therefore should not suffer the 10% deduction from interest for the defence levy.
I think this form needs to be renewed each year.

(This is my first message here so, hello World)

Also remember that you can open a Sterling account which will allow you to change @ any time you whant or only the quantity you need if the exchange rate is not the best.

Also try Bank of Cyprus. Very good for online banking and offer a series of accounts, GBP, CY£, euros, swiss francs, whatever you want. Just take a passport and deposit a small amount and thats it!
