Remove Greek and Turkish involvement

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby maewing » Sat Feb 25, 2006 8:40 am

Dear LALA,

I imagine that everyone here--Greek, Turkish, whatever--believes you need some professional help. I think this stream has come down significantly in terms of its volatility--partly contributed to by myself admittedly--but you continue to rant about people hating Turks and TCs and so forth. This seems to be clearly out of tune with the current climate in Cyprus--as many people here, GC and TC, currently living in Cyprus have testified.

Again, I think we all feel sympathy for you in having lost your home in the midst of this conflict--something I can personally relate to as I said before--but today is today and yesterday is gone. Let it go brother!

Being in HongKong, I doubt you are qualified to talk about the current climate in Cyprus. This forum is by no means a definite indication.

Sir, you do not know me nor my involvement with Cyprus. Your presumptions about my knowledge or lack thereof of affairs there are on as solid a footing as your knowledge of my middle name. Moreover, as far as I remember, Switzerland is more than just a short drive to Lefkosia.

so why my friend will you not enlighten me as I will enlighten you... I spent an equal amount of time per year (approx 6 months) in Cyprus that I do in Switzerland.... i have 15 family members living there permanently.....

I don't mean to accuse you of anything, but the way you phrase your comments seems to be rather one-sided and I can't agree with your views, because I for one (even though I am on the greek side) see your views to be lacking the objectivity that is need to solve the Cyprus Problem.

Your view that I lack objectivity is an opinion in and of itself. However, I can forgive that, since it appears you have joined the stream very late and have not read my other postings--only catching the tail end of responses. My initial (and remaining) contention is that GCs and TCs perhaps have the ability to solve the problem on their own without intervention from the outside. I suggested that the withdrawal of support from both sides (Greek and Turkish--Note I placed "Greek" first in the title, so I am not simply against the Turkish) could allow this.

My use of the terms "perhaps" and "could" are admissions of the fact that niether I nor anyone (no matter how many family members in Cyprus) can say this definitively without a broader concensus--which is why I put the matter up for discussion. If you read the earlier streams you would note that after a long detour into history and racism we brought the discussion back to this point (to which others have contributed).

As a "senior member" to this forum, it would appear more useful for you to set the example of reading entire streams before casting judgment on contributors instead of trying to discredit them based upon where they live. Your spending some time in Cyprus and having family there makes you no more of an expert on Cyprus policy than I would be on White House policy if I was from DC. If it did, I am sure this would have been solved 30 years ago (and George Bush would not be president).
