Turkish Cypriot refugee gets his property back

Postby RAFAELLA » Tue Feb 14, 2006 1:15 pm

A Turkish Cypriot refugee will become the first person to move back to his home since the Turkish invasion of 1974, after the Republic of Cyprus government withdrew its appeal to the Supreme Court over the case.

In a case which is unlikely to go down well among Greek Cypriots, the Greek Cypriot refugees who have been living in the property and who have not received their property back in northern Cyprus, will now have to move out.

Arif Mustafa, who moved to the Republic of Cyprus controlled areas of Cyprus in order to fulfil the Greek Cypriot conditions for asking for his property back, first won the case in the Supreme Court in September 2004 to be able to move back to his home in Episkopi.

Turkish Cypriot property is handled by the Guardian of Turkish Cypriot Properties, a public body.

However, the judgment was suspended pending an appeal by both the Greek Cypriots living in his home and the Republic of Cyprus govenrment.

However on Monday, the government and the Greek Cypriot refugees withdrew their appeals, fearing apparently that they would lose the case.

The government has offered larger accommodation for the refugees who have to move out.

Mustafa plans to move back to his home immediately.

The Turkish Cypriots that support the sovereignty of Republic of Cyprus and legality should be helped as much as possible like all other Cypriots. Of course the damage caused by the foreign invaders has to be shared among all Cypriots and not just the refugees until our country is liberated.

Those Turkish Cypriots that insist on illegality and collaborate with the foreign invaders for the occupation of part of our country should of course not being helped in any way (to say the least).

I hope Arif belongs in the first group.

I also think that the government should establish mechanisms that will allow the Turkish Cypriots that do not support the illegalities of Turkey to show it with actions, so these Turkish Cypriots will receive all the benefits (along with the responsibilities) of the Cypriot citizenship.

What stupid fools the g/cypriot government is, they give the turks there land back, they give free health care and education to the very people who have stolen and occupied my and my familys land and the turks have not handed back 1 field .
What mugs the g/cypriots are, they will as always sit back and do nothing while there land and property are exploited by scumbag estate agents in the uk and occupied areas.

Turns my stomach. Even worse English Scum that live in the occupied areas and then pop over to use superior Greek facilities. I have find it galling that Turkish Cypriots can have their property returned but still live in the North.

it's called market forces. Like Greeks from the south aren't 'popping' over in their hordes, spending money o'er north side. like in casinos for instance.

not too pleased with the term english scum either. kindly refrain from such ill-mannered language.

they are english scum. also german , dutch, and others who do the same . THEY ARE SCUM. there is no other word to desribe them . I also extend this epithet to Greeks that "pop" over to the occupied areas and manage to keep the illegal regime afloat. These people are in fact worse then scum. For the brief titilation of a whore or casino table are willing to sell their country down the river. As I said they turn my stomach.
