This forum is being overrun

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Piratis » Tue Feb 28, 2006 4:54 am

I've been away from this forum for ages. I come back and everyone's still saying exactly what they we're a year ago.

And why would anything change? Is there anybody in here who still believes that the Cyprus problem can be solved with discussions? It is simply a matter of balance of power. They now have the power and they are screwing us.

Unfortunately this is the truth.

Pirates I totally agree. What I find particularly dissapointing though is there are GC still willing to support the regime, by paying to play in the casino's and use the beaches in the occupied territories. Something TC would never do in our position.

I understand that many now are apathetic and believe in forgeting and I would honestly love to wake up tomorrow and believe there was genuine good will between the two communities, but it's quite evident from this forum and from everyday occurances that this is regretably not the case.

As a small nation who is faced with an opposition which does not forget, and does not accomodate, we should at least do what is within our limited powers; stop funding the regime ourselves.

I feel sorry for the families of all those who died trying to defend the island during the invasion. Because GCs are doing an injustice to their sacrifice. I'm a long standing believer that just like pre-1974 the GCs biggest enemy is not the TC or even the Turks of the mainland. It's a cliche but we are our own worst enemy because the vast majority of GC look at their own gains rather then the gains of the wider population. Not realising that the profit we make now will be paid for by the next generation.

I totally agree with Realist's comments i do not agree with the cross border gambling, it is HYPOCRITICAL for as people who scream out for Turks to leave the island (and most of Cypriots think this way) on one hand, yet on the other they go across to a regime which they oppose and pump hard earnt money into their system.
Essentially they are feeding money into the mouths of the very regime which ousted many of them from their homes. Its wrong.
Wheres the sense in that?

I agree with you my friend totally.

If everyting i am saying is wrong and if none agrees with me then perhaps the author responsible for the article below written in Greek can translate it into English for everyone else to understand?

No? Ok i will do it for you.

'Piratis why are you talking with this fool? I dont think there is any point. I am tired. I think we should make this forum site for Greek people only including those who are invloved with tourism etc etc.. If the foreigners in Cyprus want to use our site to express their opinions they should then need to learn our language first. Oust gypsies!'

Anything to close the gap will help. Starting with language is a good move.

most tcs used to speak greek.
thats not the case any more.

as far as i know though, the number of tcs willing to learn greek are way more than the gcs willing to learn turkish currently. but these numbers no way match the pre-1974 generations

Leonidas the reason that most TCs speak Greek is because they were residents of a greek country by 80%. Do you in the US beeing a part of the greek-american minority expect the other americans to speak Greek, no you do not however you as a minority in the US are expected to speak English...
