New Straw attack against Cyprus

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Agios Amvrosios » Fri Feb 10, 2006 1:13 am

Mr Ashero is either very clever or very stupid.

He is very clever if his aim was to cement the division and status quo and play Cyprus and Turkey off each other like pawns and he wanted Papadopoulos' support at home to go through the roof.

He is very stupid if hege wanted to make improve the improbable chances that the reheated food proposal would lead to anything positive

My view is that Mr Straw knew what he was doing and knew the result from the outset.

Straw and the UK have started the visits to the TRNC “President”. Many more diplomats from other nations will come. (I predicted this months ago in one of my previous threads.)

Annan, the US, or the UK do not see a solution any time in the future…. Maybe Putin will help....

Straw is panicking to have turkey go through the procedure and join EU and he is fearful that Cyprus will be the obstacle. So he is using what ever means he has to attack and weaken the Cyprus case.

To think that he said “we only agreed to the cy entering the EU because of the Annan Plan.”

As I said before. Get the English bases out of Cyprus and demand the back rent owed. The Government and all previous governments have been too frightened to make a stand against the UK. Get on with it......

I agree after the NO in the Annan they suddenly realised oh the Greek Cypriots do have a spine. :)
Let me not forget that the EU secretary or who ever he is asked Greece to make Greek Cypriots agree be less demandin towards turkey.
Please somebody remind them the Greeks will never repeat the 1974 mistake.

You lot make me laugh!!

To those who keep saying....

"Its the Americans/British/(Insert you favourite hated country hear),that are manipulating our country and we dont get to do what we want"

Well.....welcome to the world.....and especially welcome to the EU.You will soon learn that all the countries are at it.Doing deals hear.....making gestures there. All looking out for number one,and trying to get the best deals for there country.Half our laws now come out of Brussels! If you dont start getting involved with it then you get left out....and as a result get told how things will go.Its all done with a smile on there face, and a knife in the back now. This is the way politics is now, like it or lump it.

When it comes to politics, the present Greek Cypriot Administration is too clever by half.
I will live to see the times when they will regret that they did not accept the Annan Plan. If they accepted the Annan plan (ato the horror of Denktash), they would be able to water it down in time using the EU law. Now, there will never be a solution and partition will be the end result. Forget about Turkey joining the EU, indeed if you ask me they have other plans. They have Customs Union and now they have a strong economy. They will manipulate the EU Accession negotiations to get more foreign investment.
So you Greek Cypriots keep on dreaming about getting concessions from Turkey on Cyprus. There is a price for everything and if you ask too much you get nothing. You will get nothing.

Cov, there is no "Insert you favourite hated country hear". We are talking very specific: Turkey,USA and UK.

Interesting that some people are trying to make it sound as if Greek Cypriots are accusing the "whole world". Nop. it is not like that. We are talking about the very specific countries, whose role in the disaster of Cyprus (and many other parts of the world) is undeniable.

Here are two articles posted recently by BBC and an American journalist (not Greek Cypriots):

Colonialism’s ugly head
By Stavros Lygeros

This is not the first time Britain has gotten carried away by its now pointless imperial syndrome.

It is not easy to accept that a nation that once ruled the seas has become a “maidservant” of the Americans and aligned itself in near lockstep with Washington’s policies.

Like every good “employee,” it strives to show the boss how useful it is. For decades Britain’s Foreign Office has been selling its expertise on the Cyprus issue to the US State Department. That is why it could not forgive the (Greek Cypriots’) overwhelming rejection of the Kofi Annan plan. No wonder colonialism has once again reared its ugly head.

Nicosia rebutted the British secretary’s outrageous lies. Among other things, it recalled that European Union regulations on funding to the Turkish Cypriots have not been activated because of the unacceptable Turkish terms — which, like a good agent, London brought to the EU for discussion.

As for the “malicious” view that the Republic of Cyprus would not be accepted into the EU today, the same can be said for the United Kingdom. It is not only the French who regret opening up the EU to Washington’s “fifth column.”

Jack Straw referred to the legitimate Cypriot government using the Turkish term “Greek Cypriot government” and the “Papadopoulos administration”. These references were made to back up the threat of international recognition for the pseudo-state. Straw’s attack is aimed at blackmailing the Greek Cypriots into accepting the Annan plan and at absolving Turkey of its obligation to abide by its EU accession commitments. The reaction in Athens was politically mute. Nicosia’s was strong but will be stronger if it demands what Britain owes it under the 1960 founding treaty.
