yeap. ok found a comparative table. My car does on average 52.2miles per gallon (UK gallon). New Mustung 4.0 litre does 24.6 .... the 4.6 does 18.0... :) so with a tankful I do about 900-1000km...

Mikros wrote:Nope Cabbie it depends on the technology of the diesel engine. I have a large family saloon with a nice new technology 1.6 turbo diesel on it, which has the approximate torque (meaning real-life power) of a 2.2 to 2.5 petrol engine. I get an average 5.9 - 6.0 l/km consumption. If I had purchased the 2.2-2.5 petrol, the buying price would be of course higher, plus I would get close to 10-12l/km as an average... You have to compare the likes of new common-rail tech diesel engine that cam into the market 2,3,4, years ago though.

I think you'll also agree that "new technology" petrol engines are also greatly improved over the engines of 2,3,4 years ago, for instance a 1.0l Toyota engine now kicks out 67bhp and 93/3600 Nm/rpm, not far short of 1.6 engines a few years ago.

Sticking with Toyota (for no other reason than I found their web site easily, if you compare a petrol 2.0l and a diesel 2.0l you'll find the petrol has a lot more power.

The 2.0 litre VVT-i engine* (with direct-injection technology for improved performance, fuel economy and low emissions) - 145 bhp, maximum torque 196 Nm, maximum speed 130 mph, acceleration to 62 mph in just 9.4 seconds, fuel economy on the combined cycle nearly 35 mpg, CO2 emissions 191 g/km

2.0 litre turbocharged D-4D engine* - 114 bhp, maximum torque of 280 Nm, maximum speed 121 mph, acceleration to 62 mph in 11.4 seconds, fuel economy on the combined cycle 48.7 mpg, CO2 emissions 155 g/km. * Figures based on Avensis saloon

A 1.4 petrol seems to compare with a 2.0l diesel, apart from torque, and I'm sure a 1.4l would be cheaper to buy.

The 1.4 litre VVT-i engine* - 95 bhp, maximum torque of 130 Nm, maximum speed 115 mph, acceleration to 62 mph in 12 seconds, fuel economy on the combined cycle 42.2 mpg, emissions 159 g/km

WOW!

My 130bhp motorbike only does 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds and is limited to 155mph... I may trade it for a really fast one next year.

Who needs a car for fun anyway?

Well Cabbie, I also got a 1500 cc Kawasaki. No comparison, I agree but you can have fun going "topless" in the Mustang. At least you do not need a helmet. Trust me........... :D

Leo, I have to correct myself.... last night I was say 5.9 - 6.0l/km consumption, it is actually 5.9-6.0litres/100km! As for the Mustung, yes its true I agree with you, but have in mind that petrol in US costs peanuts, where as in main Europe it is just ...too expensive!
