'Anti-Islam' cartoons: Your views ?

Postby stuff » Tue Feb 07, 2006 1:14 am

Protests by Muslims have spread across the world at the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. Are the protests justified?

What should the response be to such protests? Should the European press have published the cartoons?

The civilized protests are justified. They have as much right to freedom as the ones that claim it was freedom of speach to publisize them. Stick with boycoting goods and dealing with that country.

I personally believe it was not okay to print them. Freedom of the press should take in consideration freedom of the people. Same as Paporatsis. they have no right to do what they do.

Now as far as the violent protests. They are gone tooo far. As all extremists always do. No need for that.

my view is: europe has a tradition in satire, and they way it portrays religion, above all christianism. they have been through a lot to achieve those privilages and i dont see the reason why they should give it up now. the funny thing is that most of those newspapers were actually against the war in irak, precicely bc they believe in freedom.

what should be done...i dont have a clue. perhaps the moderate islam should take action. as far as i know, the vatican is also against those carttoons...for obvious reasons  those newspapers are not the real enemies of the arab world...the real enemies didnot (yet) published any carttoons.
the european press didnot publish them to provoke. the european press re-published those as a matter of principle.they were even re-published in jordan.

So they publish the cartoons. Europe always cleans up after trouble breaks out in the Muslim world.

I just think is a case of a very short memory and they need to realise that Europe deserves their respect.

I believe in freedom of speech and expression, I see lots of
caricatures and some of them I'm sure some group of people would find
offensive, it's all down to the size of the group, and this was a big
one... Why couldn't they just say "Stupid, infidels! You will not get
any virgins in heaven for this!"

These religious extremists are sad, sad people IMHO, whose life is so
fixated on religion that they blindly defend it at all costs, without
any apparent threat. It's so easy to make them burn flags and kill
people in the name of religion that I am scared sometimes that
religions could be the next cause of world war.

But I'm one of those people who generally finds religions silly,
"opium for the masses" as Marx once called it. Spirituality, I
believe, has nothing to do with any religion and finding the answer to
the ultimate questions is the responsibility of all the people
together as one. The answers given by current religions, which
"recruit" children from a young age, without letting them to even have
a choice don't convince me one bit. I think the real meaning of the
Bible got lost in translation and churches have become a business. I
believe we have the power to create the reality around us, all our
actions affect it, so "do no evil" is a good motto for me...

The first shuttle to Mars, I'm outa here!

its gotten way out of hand - Im sure the violence is freaking lots of muslims out as well
its a shame that although the cartoons were disrespectful to their religion, burning buildings and causing havoc is so much worse!!

Why hate the Danish people for something some newspaper did?
There is not reason. ALL you are proving is how some of you few and I MEAN few muslims are.

Please do not ruin it for the majority of the true and peasefull Muslims.
