Defence of Cyprus

Defence of Cyprus

Postby The Cypriot » Mon Feb 06, 2006 9:54 pm

I've noticed that the recent appointment of Lieutenant-General Constantinos Bisbikas as chief of the Cypriot National Guard continues the tradition of Cyprus's defence forces being headed by an officer from Greece.

While the majority of Cypriots are grateful for all assistance from Greece in defending the free part of our island mightn't it send a more appropriate message if Cypriot defence were seen to be led by a Cypriot commander in chief?

Why, Simon?

Are you saying Cypriots aren't capable?

And are there no opportunities for them to gain the appropriate qualifications?

I think there are better fields to gain qualifications in than war, be happy that commander in not Cypriot. I think Cyprus could even do without an army by conscription, what a waste of time and resources... Have a small, higly trained army +navy + air force. I think Cypriots love hunting so much that they will ge good in guerilla warfare in case of war, without any training.

I believe if someone was to invade Cyprus, they would first come with planes and level all the army bases, btw what happened with the S-300 in the end? are they on Creete?

I hope there's never more war on Cyprus soil, PEACE!

time to upgrade, S-400 Triumph are already available ;)
The Triumf S-400 is a new generation of air defense and theater anti-missile weapon developed by the Almaz Central Design Bureau as an evolution of the S-300PMU [SA-10] family. This new system is intended to detect and destroy airborne targets at a distance of up to 400 km (2- 2.5 times greater than the previous S-300PMU system). The Triumf system includes radars capable of detecting low-signature targets. And the anti-missile capability of the system has been increased to the limits established by the ABM Treaty demarcation agreements -- it can intercept targets with velocities of up to 4.8 km/sec, corresponding to a ballistic missile range of 3,500 km.

Cyprus is not allowed to have a cypriot commander of its armed forces, it has to do as greece tells it to do, and greece has to do as the usa tells it to do.
Wake up cyprus and stop having the piss taken out of you .
