I would not got that far.
It always amazes me how rules seem to be made to be broken. It is everywhere in the world, for sure, but more in Cyprus. Like the threat on illegally copied cds/dvds/games.

People do it everywhere. Yet I've only seen them sold in Cyprus on stands.
Not to mention about the "name" brand ladies bags and such. Cucci etc.
All fakes but they are legally sold in stores.

One would think that the Police would do something, but they do not.

I think people should be free to choose if they want to wear helmets or not. Suicide can not be illegal ;)

I don't know. We have the same law here. But I would still wear helmet even if it was not required.
It is definetly stupid not to.
The scull is not harder than the pavement, IS it?

Me too. But if somebody doesn't want to wear it why force him? It is his own head! This is different from speed limit. If you drive too fast you might kill somebody else. If you don't wear helmet you just risk your own life more.

Hi Sotos

But do not people owe a responsibility to Society? By avoiding or reducing injury, the person involved will be less of a burden on the State in terms of hospitalization, sickness benefit etc.

It is my understanding that those involved in motor cycle accidents have a high chance of paraplegia. This is because if a major head impact occurs and a helmet is worn then the neck tends to simply snap, severing the spinal cord. Whilst some might prefer this to the alternative (death) others (such as myself) mignt not. I personally believe that this choice should left to the individual.

I don't agree that responsibility to society viz a vie being a burden to the state enters into it. If it does then maybe smoking should be made illegal, after all a significant portion of the tax I pay goes to treating those with smoking related ill health. Similar arguments could then be applied to eating fried food to excess, being involved in dangerous activities, being disabled, etc. etc.
