New injustice: friendly football match cancelled!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

There are far mor important things that should be happening before a football match takes place.

Again, why doesnt Turkey let Anorthosis and Salamina Football Clubs return home in that case?

Turkey and clubs is political. Teams playing teams is sport.

If GCs push for a sports embargo against all TCs teams due to their political issues, then we have equally valid rights to push for similar GC ban based on our usurped rights for last 40+ years. An eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind, so as Viewpoint says, leave politics out of sport - it's a friendly for God's sake - and let some positive NRG develop.

There may be bigger fish to fry, but sometimes it is taking the small steps (sports) that often lead to big leaps of faith (political settlement)

If GCs refuse this, then the spirit of reconcilliation is moving further & further away.

The sport embargo is not on Turkish Cypriots but on teams representing the illegal occupying regime in the north of Cyprus. If Turkish Cypriots want to play another sports team, theoretically they could register from within the RoC and play such a game. The sports embargoes is on the 'TRNC'...not on Turkish Cypriots. If TC want there own state so much, they can ask Turkey to grant them a little corner within its borders and move there...then set up a sports federation, as they would not be occupying another owners land. Cyprus is for all Cypriots and not exclusive to the Turks. You cannot commit such ethnic cleansing and commit so many human rights attrocities and expect to get away with it.

MS, same goes for your side, but GCs been playing football since 1955, TCs have not. Why? Is this fair? I say not. I say again, this has bugger all to do with TRNC (it is now a convenient excuse) but something rooted deep within Cyprus conflict.

TCs entitled to their own separate reps for sports according to 1960 Constitution so are OK to set up own federations, but yet it is always played out as wanting separatism. They just want access to same rights and opportunities as GCs. Joint, separate, anything - as long as it is fair!

The RoC suggestion is tiring - your people do not accept any such move unless they are in charge. But a united Cyprus is about power sharing at all levels. So what are TCs meant to do? Just sit it out and wait another 40 years until the politicians can resolve this conflict? Is it right that a TC cannot play for his club like Cetinkaya and be denied the same rights to international football & professional development/opportunities?

Please don't use the refugee line. As I said, we have plenty of them too, but we wouldn't dream of spending our NRGs on stopping your people playing, yet OK for us to go without, with facts all mixed up about who is to blame for what, & still ordinary people suffer.

If we can't sort the refugee thing out, but we can OK some friendly matches (just like OK'ing electricity supplies), where is the harm in that?

If you still view this issue differently, I suggest you check out the House of Commons debate on Cyprus that took place yesterday. A few choice lines below:
Malcolm Rifkind to Jack Straw: Will the Secretary of State therefore continue to impress on President Papadopoulos and the Government of the Republic of Cyprus that the best interests of the republic will be served by proper and responsible contact with recognised leaders of the Turkish community?

Jack Straw in response: regard it a matter of regret that the Administration of President Papadopoulos have sought to distance themselves from the Turkish Cypriot community and to cease to have any contact with it. Moreover, because of their unhelpful approach towards the aid proposals for the north from the European Union, they are in my judgment seeking to marginalise the Turkish Cypriot community and not in any way to assist in their economic development. That cannot help the Greek Cypriot community any more than it can help the Turkish Cypriot community....[a bit later] I regret very much the negative approach that that Government are taking....[and finally]the current approach of the Government of Cyprus does not in any way represent movement towards a united Cyprus and objectively is likely to lead to the opposite result.

More and more people coming round to seeing who is being unnecessarily obstructive and who is not. This football issue - when made more public - will only reinforce that view...

What do you mean TC could not play football after 1955? Can you be a bit more specific here? You DO KNOW that in 1955 Cyprus was still under British rule and you DO KNOW that in the past Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots have played for the same national team.

This has everything to do with the 'TRNC', because in order for a two professional / semi-professional clubs to play eachother, there has to be some dialogue between the two football federations they belong to. There is no 'TRNC' football federation because FIFA, like basic international law, recognises that the whole island comes under jurisdiction of the Cypriot football association. Giving the 'TRNC' an internationally recognised sports association is basically saying that there is a recognition of the 'TRNC', which is not going to happen. Turkish Cypriots can play football in the free areas of Cyprus if they wish to, as there some doing so at the moment.

TCs entitled to their own separate reps for sports according to 1960 Constitution so are OK to set up own federations, but yet it is always played out as wanting separatism. They just want access to same rights and opportunities as GCs. Joint, separate, anything - as long as it is fair!

There is a difference between a Turkish Cypriot sports club and a international sports federation for the so-called 'TRNC'. Its just like there are many all Pakistani cricket clubs in Bradford but I doubt the UK would authorise Bradford to become some kind of ethnic Pakistani state which has its own internationally recognised sports federation. Turkish Cypriots have the same rights as Greek Cypriots in the RoC...when are you going to get it through your dense mind the RoC is for all Cypriots, not just Greek Cypriots like you want to portray. How can you talk about fair when you want to steal and ethnically cleanse Greek Cypriots, then turn that land into a internationally recognised giant military base of Turkey. The Republic of Cyprus is for ALL Cypriots, not just Greek Cypriots. The RoC gives all its citizens the same RIGHTS.

The RoC suggestion is tiring - your people do not accept any such move unless they are in charge. But a united Cyprus is about power sharing at all levels. So what are TCs meant to do? Just sit it out and wait another 40 years until the politicians can resolve this conflict? How can you give a 50% share of the government which represents 18%, if less now, of the community. Why do you Turkish Cypriots think you are a special case. Why cannot you accept a free and democratic government, where the whole population votes on who is in power. A Turkish Cypriot can play for the RoC..but there is no point because you are wilffully blind to the issue at hand. If Turkish Cypriots want there own state so much, go move to Turkey and ask them to give you a corner of their land. You cannot ethnically cleanse part of a country then complain when it is not recognised as your own. This is not the Ottoman times.

Please don't use the refugee line. As I said, we have plenty of them too, but we wouldn't dream of spending our NRGs on stopping your people playing, yet OK for us to go without, with facts all mixed up about who is to blame for what, & still ordinary people suffer.

No one is stopping Turkish Cypriots play football...but we will not be fooled into letting 'TRNC' become recognised through sport. There is no exclusive Greek Cypriot international football team, so why should there be a Turkish Cypriot one.

If we can't sort the refugee thing out, but we can OK some friendly matches (just like OK'ing electricity supplies), where is the harm in that?
If a Turkish Cypriot club wants to play a friendly, then it could register itself through the offical football association of Cyprus and do it that way. The real issue to your complaints is that the recognition you want for your ethnically cleansed psuedo state has lost one more avenue through sport.

If you still view this issue differently, I suggest you check out the House of Commons debate on Cyprus that took place yesterday. A few choice lines below:
Fuck Jack Straw...ask your muslim Brothers, from the countries you expect to recognised you, what they think of him and what his real agenda is.

The recent approach of the governt of the RoC has rcently given TC free healthcare (which is a privalege...not a right), upheld their title deeds from before the invasion, set up a body to deal with TC land issues and is now giving TC the right to vote in the next election. I dont give a crap what that corupt piece of shit Jack Straw says...its all to appease Turkey and their friends the USA and Israel.

Rude Gal you talk about wrong...this is joke I guess. I will tell you what is wrong:
Wrong is that turkey occupies 40% of our country illegally.
Wrong is that the TC have the same rights in the RoC with being obliged to pay any taxes.
Wrong is that the TC come to the non-occupied part of cyprus and stroll around, then go back and support an illegal state.
Wrong is the existence of fucking Stro. English diplomacy is put in the corner from the RoC, the bases are on the way to go home with the next minor chance that comes on the table. If stro says that the turkish are right, what make you think that we listen? Waiti to see what the wife of Blair will hear after she will loose the case of greek cypriot property sold illegally to some idiot english
wrong is that you do not understand that we are andur turkish invasion, and that the so called illegal state of your for 40 years is not recognised and you still eat the bullshit that it will...
Wrong is to say that 65% of you voted for solution. Anan is not a solution for us. We do not sell our pride, nation and country for money. We do not accept to give more than 50% to the minority of 18%.
So if you want to play football, be a part of the official RoC and you will. Then you can have as many friendly matches you want

Bro, you're soooo right. I pray for sabir, and that I have the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, and that goodness will prevail over bad. What more can we do?
