New injustice: friendly football match cancelled!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Agios Amvrosios » Mon Feb 06, 2006 3:20 am

Why do you want to play in ethnically divided teams- perhaps what needs to happen is that a single team made up Cypriots from all backgrounds should go on tour. One United team.

But have you learnt to share Cyprus and power and respect the rights/differences of others?

No, you are the ones who have to learn this.
We respect your every right and difference, and as a matter of fact the Republic of Cyprus is one of the few countries were the language of an 18% minority is an official one. Tell me one thing that we have asked to be included in the solution that would not respect your rights and differences?

You also have to learn to share power. You are 18% and therefore your fair power share in a democratic country is the 18%. You ask for 50%, which is something undemocratic and exists in no other country in the world.
But even here we are compromising accepting that you can have veto powers in specific matters etc. Again way more than any other 18% minority has in any other country.

And I read an article by journo based in Lebanon that says somewhere in South Nicosia, there is place that equates 9/11 bombers with Turkey in Cyprus.

This is ridiculous. There can be no comparison. About 2-3 thousand people were killed on 9/11 and those attacks were organized by an illegal paramilitary organization.
The Turkish invasion and occupation has costs the lives to 6000 people and committed one of the worst crimes, the one of ethnic cleansing, over 1/3rd of the population of Cyprus. And the terrorists that did this was the official state of Turkey.
The magnitude of disaster that the Turkish invasion brought to GCs is hugely more than the disaster of 9/11. An equivalent of the turkish invasion in the USA would be Russia invading them, killing 1% of their population (250.000 people) and then occupying 1/3rd of the USA by ethnically cleansing 1/3rd of their population (80 million). Now that would be an equivalent disaster for the USA, not the 9/11!!

There is no doubt some deep psychological traumas from 74, but blood, I think the problem goes way deeper. To the fall of Constantinople and it just keeps being reinforced. It's ok to prevent a friendly football match or stop them trading or prevent them from having a life...

That is why partition was supported in 1950s and why it is still an aspiration for some TCs today.

Rude gal, before you admitted by yourself that the embargoes are exactly the reason why you have an incentive for a solution. Did it slip from you when you said that?
You know very well that we have only a few "weapons" against the terror that Turkey is using against us. One is the embargo and the other one is our veto in the EU. You want us to drop our weapons while you continue using yours to keep our people out of their own homes, so the problem will be solved for you and Turkey and the Cyprus Problem will remain a problem only of GCs? Sorry, you must understand that your problem will be solved when our problem will be solved.

FYI (as I'm sure you well know) TCs in North Cyprus have stopped talking about partition (or most) and focussing on solution. The current TC leadership and Govt were elected on ticket to unification (3 votes in 1 year, Annan Plan, Presidential and General Elections).

They are focusing on disguised partition. Do you know any one country that imposes restrictions on settlement of its own citizens within the country? Do you know any other country that a small minority of 18% receives 50% power?
The Annan plan was a partition plan. If Turkey likes it, then why she doesn't apply it to solve her problems with the 20% Kurdish minority?

Ours have made the leap, the hand is outstretched. Your people need to do the same - act big and bold.

Our hand is outstretched for a solution that would respect the human, legal and democratic rights of everybody. Why you do not accept it?

If you act as of old, then partition is an inevitability.

We know your story Rud Gal. We heard it many times. You tell us: "We have the power. We occupy your land. You either accept the disguised partition or we will unilaterally force a usual partition".
Change your brains Rud gul and stop trying to force things against our human and democratic rights. Stop threatening us with partition like you have done for 50 years. Otherwise the Cyprus problem will not be solved, and be sure the Cyprus problem will be your problem as well. (embargoes etc). And whose fault will that be?

I think the morale behind this issue has been some what lost. Many people have say that Politics and sports should not be mixed but our neighbours appear to realish in the fact that using this embargo is like a weapon to be wielded to makes us yield to GC demands. For gods sakes it is a foodtball match, and then GCs ask why we are so negative towards their administration. They should realize the amount of positive influence this would have over the TC community and how TCs would soften their view of the GC administration.

I wonder if the occupying forces will let teams like Anorthosis or Salamina return home then?

How much positive influence does the TC community want? The RoC gives them free healthcare, a mixed school, rights over there properties in the south and even supplies the whole of the occupied area with electricity when there is a blackout. It seems its all take take take from the TC community, especially when they talk about Greek Cypriot's making concessions for reunification...how can we make concessions when its Turkey that has taken something FROM US!?

Rude Gal

Just a couple of points:

1. "Leap" of Turkish-Cypriots:

Why did this "leap" not take place in the past 30 years?? Let's face it, any TC "leaps" are performed strictly at the request and on the order of the Ankara Generals.

For 30 years Turkey was stating that the Cyprus problem was solved in 74. Right after Cyprus joined the EU (contrary to Turkish expectations) and gained a veto against Turkish accession, Turkey remembered that there is a problem in Cyprus and TCs started "leaping"!! Please, spare me the bs talk..

2. Sports' ban

Your comments make me think of a car thief who after stealing a car has the nerve to start complaining that he is not allowed to register the car to his name and start using it legally... let's all get serious here..

Not only that the car thief is trying to take the stolen car onto the motor way with one of those circa 1980's club locks still on the steering wheel into on coming traffic and he is picking up hitch hiking tight ass back backers from Britain.

Why dont you stop providing those "rights"? you appear to be against them, if your administration claims to represent all of the Cypriots then these are basic services they have to supply to all its citizens. The political gain far outweighs the cost, these services are not supplied out of love for the TCs, its all done for political advantage.

This is just a football match nothing official, no recognition issues just men kicking around a football. The GCs mentality of keeping us in isolation is sickening they would stop the sun shining on the north if they knew who to lodge a complaint to

You are like spoilt child you lit the fuse to the bomb which you hoped would blow TCs to kingdom come, only it exploded in your face and you cry why did this happen. You should have really thought about that before you struck the match dont you think:wink:

So again...your not happy. If these services are done out of political gain and not done to provide Turkish Cypriots with RoC rights (remember only TC are gettin free healthcare from the RoC), then why do TC continue to take advantage of them? Isnt that like selling out a little bit?

I havent got a problem with giving TC the same rights as GC...but the football team is representative of the illegal pseudo state who occupies RoC territories. Besides, its European law that the match didnt go ahead and even though the Turkish press continues to blame the RoC, I doubt they had much say in the decision. Your just forgetting that the 'TRNC' is illegal in international legislation and these are some of the consequences.

The occupied north has no offical UEFA or FIFA recognised football association, so again, there are a lot of people to veto such a match before the RoC puts its say in.

Here we go...back to VP's warped sense of thinking....you use children in a lot of your analogies dont you. Sounds like you got some weird facination with kids...I hope they keep you away from the local school. At the end of the day VP, contrary to what you might think about the whole Cyprus issue, its Turkey that is currently commiting the crime, for the past 31 years...and these are some of the justifiable consequences that come with it.
