A COFFEE shop solely for women is expected to start operating in Paphos before the end of the month and the rules are clear: strictly no men allowed!
Inspired by a desire to keep her grandmother’s name alive, Paphian Andri Laouri created the “Kyra Frosyni” caf?, which will welcome female company all year round.
Laouri had been toying with the idea for years, because she had realised that many women had nowhere to go to spend some time and relax.
The traditional coffee shop, a renovation of grandmother Frosyni’s house, apart from the traditional coffees, teas and soft drinks, will serve homemade meals, operate as a library and host exhibitions and lectures.
It will operate mostly as a cultural centre, satisfying at the same time the needs of modern women.
Apart from readings and discussions, women will enjoy a variety of projections, piano and guitar music and of course the traditional card games.
Characteristic of this coffee shop will be its high quality and interior aesthetics. It will be a warm and welcoming area for the winter months, but its biggest advantage will be the backyard during the summer.
The coffee shop of Kyra Frosyni (Mrs Frosyni) is situated in Kato Paphos and will be open from 10am until midnight.
The first women-only coffee shop opened in the Famagusta village of Xylofagou in 2002.
