I believe some settlers from turkey due to investment or there children being born and bought up in cyprus now should be regarded as cypriot and be allowed to stay as for the rest i say the sooner they leave the better and turkey should compensate them, but i also believe that to be the case in southern cyprus as i am told lots of russians and many are mafia they should also be ousted.

All thoughts and opinions respected and answered.

Lets not confuse settlers with immigrants and foreigners that live and work legally in Cyprus.

One thing is to be immigrant that got accepted through legal procedures (many of you are such people in countries like the UK), and another thing to be a settler who was brought here illegally to change the demographics and was given stolen property.

Yes there is differences and if they have come through a legal immigration application which has been accepted by a goverment offices no problem BUT i have been told that there are a lot of illegal immigrants from former russian states who are from various mafia organisations, is there any truth in that? also in recent cypriot publications like 'cyprus weekly' i read how the police grabbed one lot of people literally of the street and nearly all of them were illegal immigrants, the odds on that are so huge that not many could work them out(me included)

I am no supporter of mainland turk settlers we the northern cypriots have suffered in there hands in many ways and to see them leave would be just great and see the many cypriots like myself return to our united cyprus would be closure on our exile in other countries.

Piratis go for it but try to be polite i can take straight forward critiszm and remarks but many on this forum can not..........thanks

The truth is as follows:
1.there are about 10,000 Pontian Greeks here (from ex soviet block) holding Greek passports, in a very strange status.Not immigrants, not temporary workers, not permanent workers, no Cypriot citizenship. In other words they are allowed to stay indefinetely.
2.There are about 500 Russian bussinessmen doing international offshore bussiness.Some of them actually belong to the Russian Mafia
3.There are about 2,000 other foreigners running offshore companies.
4.There are about 7,000 foreign cheap labourers from India, Pakistan, Philipines, Shri-Lanka Syria etc, on a 4 year contract basis.Thir contract IS NOT RENEWABLE!
5.There are 7-12,000 illegal cheap labourers who entered as stowaways

No this is not accurate.What happened is that within one night they caught about one hundred illegal stowaways in just one town! But the number of foreigners they checked was not 100. Was about 300! It is obvious from the numbers I gave above that 1-2 out of 3 foreigners here are illegal, everybody knows that.But the only thing the Police does is a ONE NIGHT SHOW only.

If you sum up the number of foreigners (both legal and illegal) their number is about 4-5% of the population.Add to that about 40,000 British,Germans etc who came here as EU citizens and bought houses etc.

Compare that to the number of settlers who are today more than the real TCs.

One of the many things I did not like in the Anan Plan was that there was no provision for the many TCs and GCs who emmigrated in the past to help them come back. For example a provision that the state to build them a new house or help them build one, or even have bi-lingual schools Greek-English, Tuirkish-English to make their kids assimilate back to their Cypriot roots.
Instead of that the plan was saying that we should built new houses for the settlers!!!

If some of them must stay then it is Turkeys responsibility to build them houses. Our responsibility as Cypriots is to help our own people the real Cypriots who will return, and nobody else! Yet the Anan pln cared less for the real Cypriots....

All the cypriots i know feel this way, and will continue to feel this way as long as the turkish army is there, and all the settlers keep pouring in.
