Off topic for a moment but the money in football these days seems insane. A couple of weeks ago I read that 37 year old Ronaldo was set to accept an offer to play for a Saudi club. If so he will be paid $200 million for 2 seasons.

World Cup prize money 2022 table: How much will each country earn?

Aside from the pride each nation generates for going on a run at the World Cup, each nation also earns World Cup prize money based on their performance.

FIFA will dish out $440 million in prize money for the World Cup as cash is given out depending on which stage of the tournament they reached, plus each team received $1.5 million just for qualifying for the World Cup.

National teams generally operate at financial loss. Most of the football money goes to first division teams who may spend tens of millions to buy just one player.

How can national teams operate on a loss. They pay the players 10k each game when the clubs pay them anything from 50K to 500K per week.
During the 2020-21 season, The FA generated a total turnover of £443m [2019-20: £335m] with an operating profit of £132m [2019-20: £9.8m]. These financial results comprise a consolidation of Football Association Limited, Wembley National Stadium Limited and the National Football Centre Limited.

I said "generally" which means in most countries.
The UK is not far off anyway. As per your link their Football association (not the National team ) makes revenue from many sources and almost broke even in 2019-20. Which means the National team alone should have operated at loss.

These days Ronaldo has more commercial value than his skills as a player, which is why he might draw such large deals.
