If this is a serious vote to nominate moderators, then I propose that this particular vote in this thread be NULL AND VOID on the basis that the voting is secret ballot. It should not be secret. We should be able to see who votes and for whom, in order to maintain voter integrity because we can't be sure if some members are voting for themselves through their multi accounts. Not making any accusations that this is occuring, but this vote should be open to forum scrutiny.
If a secret ballot is good enough for voting a political party to govern a country..... And..... For entry into the freemasons then I'm sure its good enough for a forum with around a dozen active members.... If you do t cast a vote then you've no argument if the person you wanted to win didn't
It's not the same...
In western elections, parties have the right to appoint electoral scrutineers to oversee the vote count and tallying.
In this vote, there is no mechanism from scrutiny at all. We are just asked to accept and trust. Well, the stakes are far too high for that given the level of polarisation between certain members, in particular over critical issues such as the invasion of Ukraine, displacement of millions of people, death and destructions to hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians as their apartment blocks are raised to the ground.
These are things no sane individual can tolerate. I don't tolerate them, but there are members here who do, and there are members here advocating for the death and destruction of the country I am a citizen of and another country I reside in as a permanent resident. As such, I have serious concerns. Moreover, whether I can participate or whether my sane point of view against injustice and war crimes, will be tolerated by the newly asylum elected "moderators".
Hello again Paphites.
It seems you have fears about someone with political views which are opposite of another members becoming a mod and banning persons with opposite views
I certainly don't think this would happen no matter who was "voted in"
Can you not remember a few years back when all sorts of views were being thrown around.... No one was banned as far as I remember... In fact if i remember correctly we did have mods in those days one of whom was a member Piratis who had extreme views.
This forum was built along with other things on vociferous debate
Hugs
Richard
I'm always first to support the persecuted Richard, and defend everyone's right to free expression, including those with different views than my own. That's what I always grew up with as a priviliged person lucky enough to be born in one of the most desirable western countries on the face of the earth.
Debate isn't the issue at all.
I never remembered Piratis as having extreme views, unless condemning the invasion of Cyprus is extreme which I don't believe is the case.
Extreme, in my view, is anyone who supports the illegal invasion and occupation of Cyprus. it's illegal to say the least, not to mention unjust to a tiny a defenceless country.
In the same way that those who condemn the invasion of Ukraine are not extreme. If anything, those who support the invasion are holding the extreme position, and are unjust. But then again, when someone spouts such hatred for the west, then that's just off the charts bordering the insane...
And with such polarisation, and hatred, then one can only presume that the hatred and intollerance will go against anyone who takes the pro western stance, such as myself.
Yes I can actually see that I wouldn't last 5 minutes in the Ukraine War thread.
