Because Ukraine is the puppet of America in inflicting as much damage to Russia as possible.
In this respect it can go away with anything, from shelling deliberately the Zaporicha Nuclear power plant threatening the whole World with a nuclear catastrophe, to preparing the blow of the dam in Dnipro river flooding the whole Kherson, just to kill ~ 40K Russian troops plus ~120K Russian speakers on the right side of the river plus about ~70K on the left side, always accusing Russia of doing it, and always getting her "story" circulating as the truth in the trashy western media.

Similarly in this case that turned out to be a planned Ukrainian provocation.
Why a provocation? Because the the S-300s don't intercept Russian missiles that are flying from the East to the West, by flying in the same direction (from East to the West) as well.They intercept them by flying from the West to East!!
Therefore the idiots planned this provocation to imitate the trajectory of the Russian missiles, without thinking that they could be caught with their pants down from it's remnants.

They know they stand no chance against the Russians starting from January 2023, therefore they do everything possible to get Nato in to save them.

Where the goal is not to have a successful war, but an endless war, for washing out US and European taxpayer money through Ukraine and back to the hands of certain crooks in US, and EU?
