Btw obliging to my bet with Lordo, I am informing the forum that we did exchange IDS via PMs.
Lordo's ID looked as if it was a Colonial one, but he is sure he issued it in 1971 or 72 together with his passport. There was a box titled "Nationality" where they wrote in English -why in English I don't know- "Citizen of the Republic". There was also another box titled "race" on his green and plain paper ID. The title "race" was striked off with a pen, and inside the box they wrote "Turk"!! Mine was Orange in colour, issued in 1973, wrapped in plastic, and my nationality was "ΚΥΠΡΙΑΚΗ"=CYPRIOT. There was no "race" box. Also mine was bilingual (Greek and Turkish only). Lordo thinks that maybe until 1971-72 they were using old Colonian IDs...
I think that's probably because after 1960's independence Cypriots had some time limit to chose between Cypriot citizenship or British.
I guess I lost the bet, so I will be buying the beers when I see him. 8)

I like the sound of that. What would be really good is to find a GC who got his ID before 1972 and see if it is any different than Pyros. I have a feeling there is a deeper ipolitical ssue at this time . Unless a GC has same as mine in which case it can only be explained by the facts that they may have had lots printed and they were using them up.

I just called a relative who I know likes to keep old documents. He said his first ID was issued in 1963 and from how he described it was like yours. I asked him if it had a block titled "race" on it. He said it's impossible for him to remember such detail, however he was sure it was saying he was "christian" at some block. He promised to find it and email it to me.
He further said that in 1973 he got a new one and a passport. His new one was orange like mine...

It sounds to me as though they printed a lot of these pre 1960 and were using them up.

...wwIII; yes, i am afraid that this war will be used as a cover for others, like China/ Taiwan, or Turkey/Cyprus; any number of belligerents may choose to take action with the world distracted in this way.

Interesting concept this soverignty thingy ainit. Here are yanks defending the soverignty of Ukraine and they have declared the pipeline between Russia and Germany cannot go ahead if Russia invades Ukraine.

So what happened to Germany's soverignty all of a sudden?
And what exactly are the Yanks still doing in Germany and so the British may I ask?
What a world we live in?

In Africa no less than 17 countries attained independence overnight!

Not a single one of these countries needed to shed any blood over this… it became their right to be independent…

https://www.africanexponent.com/post/84 ... dependence

Yet Cypriots to this day, talk about “winning” their independence through struggle!

What a load of fucking bullshit! :?

Cyprus already had their independence lined up in accordance with international law yet that 5ft little stump of a man with the IQ of challenged baboon (Grivas) came to Cyprus illegally on some shitty little boat to commence the “struggle”!

They should’ve beaten the living daylights out of that little peasant-shit the moment he landed on the Paphian shore.

As you say, the reality is that the so called “struggle” was pointless.

You just have to look at Malta. Like Cyprus they were a part of the British Empire and they got their independence without a single shot fired.

All we accomplished is making an enemy of the UK, and others.

Today, there are 11 million Chinese in Hong Kong that would beg to be a part of the UK. Go figure!

That’s an indication that as an Empire, the Brits were not particularly iron fisted or heavy against subject countries generally speaking apart from one or two exceptions like India for instance.

That's because you were never forced to do slavery work to build roads between main cities in Cyprus. Don't be naive. We were terribly exploited both regarding our resources, and our potential. Within just years from independence our standard of living increased by 7 times!! That should tell you something.

Oh so they enforced slavery did they? News to me...

How does it compare to the current slavery in Cyprus where a tertiary educated Cypriot earns between 600 to 800 Euros per month?

I wonder why Cypriots drive such expensive cars since according to General, they earn 6 to 8 hundred euros per month. :D

I don't think the idiot has been to Cyprus for the last 40 years assuming that he is older than that.

Putin’s got a front-of-stage ticket for the Winter Olympics opening next week. I doubt he’d be so rude as to steal Xi Jinping’s show.
