I know you were. The central offices of my company were there.. Have you entered the ghetto of the blacks? Of course not!. No white person ever did.And you dare tell us there is no racism in America! There is racism and counter racism between blacks and whites, but also between hispanics and whites.Had no issue but here is the thing. If you want to find trouble, drugs and ghettos in the US, you can find them.
The Blacks concentrate in ghettos. However drugs etc are EVERYWHERE in every neighborhood, in every company offices, in every University. The majority of Greek and Cypriots at the NYC University are with a syringe in pocket! Talk to the Greeks for CS rather than painting a fantasy in your head. If I were you i would be damn scared concerning the future of my kids.Just like Adelaide. I'll tell you about Adelaide. it's a bueatiful city. One of the best cities of the world. Green, and just extremely pretty. But when you go to Elizabeth and Salisbury, every second house is drug fucked, and there is crime galore. They are ghettos. Yet, it's one of the most classiest cities of the world. Extremely cultural, conservative and just a wonderful place.
Melbourne and Sydney are worst. Brisbane too. As with Adelaide and class, Melbourne is very similar to Adelaide in many ways. Very European and very cultural. Sydney and Brisband are very Americanised. Great cities too in their own right but they have nothing on Melbourne and Adelaide. Go gto the western suburbs of Sydney. I give a person like you 5 days before you are stabbed or shot.
Sydney you can compare to LA in many aspects. Buetiful harbour but many dark aspects.
And you lot in Cyprus are not far behind us.
Really? So I will get stabbed or shot within 5 days in down town Nicosia? At least in Australia and America, Human development index is very high. Higher than you loit in Cypryus.
Yes you can find trouble in the US. But I have never found problems. It just depends whether you are looking for it or not.
But, even so, there are far more positives than negatives. Professionally, US is the place to be not just in aviation. But the US also attracts the best scientists and medical professionals. And not only in those areas but practically in every facet such as IT Tech, Finance and Banking, Mechanical Engineering and Motor Industry, Green Energy and much more.
I am an Engineer. I 've seen much more technology from the Portuguese (Lisbon company) than the Americans. They are still using the Imperial units (inches, feet, pounds, pints etc) and all that 19th century mess, that confuses everybody, and makes them hard to cooperate.
Do you buy your groceries by the pound Paphitis? How many feet tall are you?
I enter the black neighbourhoods in New York all the time.
Harlem is sone of the most expensive property you can buy in the world, but you would consider it a slum.
Now, I’ve never had any issues with Black communities. On the contrary, 98% of them are decent people and law abiding to. But sure, there are gangs and there is more crime. But I’ve never been harmed. Not even come close. I don’t know why I have it easy. Maybe they see colour in me. I think it’s because I’m no threat to them. If you mind your business, you shouldn’t have an issue.
If you are a smart ass, well it’s likely they will pull a gun on you and yes they are packing for sure.
What you do not realise is that there are many black millionaires there. Families with inter-generational property inheritances - where a single house is worth millions and sone own a few not just 1.
That’s the beauty of America. Blacks are enjoying equal opportunity, and a progressing through Americas tertiary system, military, and are becoming prominent lawyers, doctors, engineers and do on. We have many pilots that I fly with. They are just as good as anyone else and nice people to boot.
They are police officers, nurses, paramedics that are black. Store owners/business owners as well. They are forging ahead and their communities are developing.
But if you are looking for slums, you will find them in America and it isn’t just the blacks. It’s also Hispanics and also many derelict whites as well. They are everywhere. You can say in a slighter bigger proportion than the whites, but America isn’t the same as what it was in the 1950s, 60s etc.
America is a very diverse country.
To answer your question though, no I did not go to the rougher parts of Saint Louis. I just didn’t have the time. I was busy in Ground School trying to pass. And on top of that, there was so much to do like open bank accounts, get my FAA conversions and a social security number etc etc. which the company assisted with to the point of holding our hands.
And also removal of family who went straight to Bee York even though I will not get there for at least 3 to 4 months. Schools needed to be organised for the kids as well.
But to clarify further, you can find slums and rough neighbourhoods in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. When I say rough, they even give America a good run for its money. There are some really shitty suburbs in Australian cities. Even in Adelaide which is the most uppity of Australian cities. It is the most snobby Australian city and Adelaideans think they are a special type of Aussie. They think they are superior. Only in Adelaide you will find a true aristocracy which believe they are the chosen people. Adelaide really is a great city though. But you see the same in America. Like Seattle, Connecticut, Boston and so on which are very much like Adelaide and in sone places even worse.
In Australia we also concentrated in ghettos when the first mass migration waves of Greeks and Italians were getting off the boats. We all concentrated in certain suburbs and stuck together as a defence measure in a foreign land and because our ancestors had many issues including language barriers. Most of us were low social economic and factory workers. Not anymore though.
America is a very big country and there is a lot of crime but it depends where you live. Usually you find the crime in the outer fringes where you have the slums. But it’s hardly India. You have the same in Europe in places like London, Paris and Athens. I’m going to Istanbul next year. It’s the same there. But it doesn’t make the city bad. It’s just the way it is.
America is a bad place to be unemployed and poor. Many people are unemployed here because they can’t get their act together. If you want to work and educate yourself, then America is the place to be. You caN better yourself and you can improve your lifestyle and in time after a few years, you can buy property as well. But if you are a
Broken person then it’s bad. And many people get left behind and that applies to whites as well.
The biggest challenge is choosing where to live because that dictates the school your kids will attend. We live in a very central NY borough which has some of the best schools in the country. Our children are attending a religious based private school which is costly on our finances and attracts more affluent families. Not that this is any guarantees. Usually rich kids have the money to experiment with drugs too and it does happen but the kids have a better chance in live as there is discipline in the schools and stability among these families as well.
So no, America isn’t what you portray. It’s a developed country with great infrastructure and nice cities. No different to Australia. But a lot more busy and hectic.
The biggest difference is that NYC is a very hard place to raise a family and it’s expensive and what gets me is the winter. But my wife has family support here. That is a huge difference. And we already had established networks and friends. But I still prefer California and Denver.
