For Putin it was very clear that Ukraine was never going to ratify the signed 2014 Minsk agreements and instead, with the help of NATO, Ukraine was building up it’s forces not just to defend Ukraine, but to go after Crimea to win it back and further secure the Donbas regions and the coastline of Sea of Azov, which is really the gems of what Ukraine can offer to NATO when it would become a member. Bottom line, there was always going to be a war come what may, regardless who fired the first shot, and as Putin clearly stated, that if there is going to be a fight, he would throw the first punch, and so he did.

As things stand at the moment, Russia is in no hurry to advance much further as they are dug in good to defend what they are holding. They would rather encourage the Ukrainians to attack where they would suffer large numbers of casualties as an attacking force. Once the Russians wear down the Ukrainians and the support from NATO and the west this winter, Russian forces will start heading towards Odessa to complete the total control of Ukraine’s coastline on the Black Sea. This would be NATO’s worst nightmare after all the money and weapons they have thrown to Ukraine and nothing to show for.

I know this scenario does not play well with the Ukrainian cheerleaders on here with their endless YouTube warriors predicting Russia’s demise as a military powerhouse and imminent victory for Ukraine. It is nice to be a diehard optimist regardless how far fetched those optimism’s are where reality has no place in their consciousness, but instead it is filled with absolute denials of what the future holds for this war. Everyone is entitled to be an optimist for the final outcome for Ukraine, which is no different than why some of us buy lottery tickets in the hopes of beating the odds!

It looks to me the Russians are freezing the current offensive on purpose for 2 reasons:

a)To watch Europe's reaction to their freezing process during the Winter and,
b) In January the number of professional Russian troops will increase by 137K (to a total of more than 1 million). So they will be able to transfer the same number in Ukraine, for a fresh start next February.

Of course that's what they are saying but it doesn't make any sense.

Always the arch liars. And the Russians are losing towns and villages for the same reason...

I said it looks to ME. Which means is MY personal opinion. If I were to take that from someone else I would have provided a link. So don't jump to conclusions...

Pyro, a storming of thousands of troops always looks good at the onset, but 2-3 days later it tends to lose steam as fatigue sets in, casualties mount, and logistics become a real problem, especially for Ukraine which already has a very bad track record in logistics.

The other problem is that it’s easy to storm and advance by a few kilometers with 5-10 thousand troops, but what chances do you have of hanging onto such territory, establishing and maintaining logistics and looking after the civilians living there… if your name is Ukraine?

The Ukraine is already in shambles in their west so I don’t see them recapturing, maintaining and managing territories.

With these attacks they’re just showing off to please the US at a great cost to themselves… therefore I have no faith in Ukrainian “counter offensives”... they’re just FAKE half-hearted incursions to please the West.
