I do not understand why when it became obvious that they were going to be attacked why they did not move west even if it is on foot to safer place. Unless they were not allowed to move being blocked by their own army. That is understandable.

Everyone has their own answer, we were (read: are) Cypriots, not "Greeks", we thought better of Humankind, we expected to be treated for what we were, farmers; (but we were wrong).

But in 74 most people moved south only about 1000 people stayed on the Kyrenia side of the monodahdilo. I may be mistaken about the figure though. Considering 160 000 people moved how many stayed was negligable

...the men and young men were gathered up by the Turkish authorities and sent to prisons unknown (where some disappeared).

...the rest, the aged, women and children were held in the village's school yard where they lived in the open for months before they were also forced to leave.

How many "stayed" may have been negligible compared to the mass that left 'immediately', after the Turkish Army started their invasion (with their second wave of attack), but i don't know either; only the total number is clear as such: all the "Greeks" were displaced in affect.

...very much like Ukraine. Hard to remember that Ukrainians exist; they are neither "Ukrainian" or "Russian".
