I don't know where you learnt your culture, but gadalysmos is not a thing to be celebrated. Only heathens celebrated this.

Biblical side note for “Kataklismos”...

Kataklismos in English is the “Day of Pentecost” which according to the bible commemorates the day when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples in Jerusalem after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

There’s a special mass in churches for this day but the public don’t really do anything other than enjoy a day off.

Alright, that's it... back to the Ukraine!

No. There was a parade. Kids tear-assing into the sea after the priest had chucked in a cross. They even had a concert. Not to mention the obligatory neighbourhood BBQs.

Err, the throwing of the cross into the sea to be retrieved by brave swimmers... happens right after Christmas, called “ta phota” or “the lights” day.

Nope, that website got it all wrong.

The cross is thrown in the sea on “Epiphany Day” which takes place early January…

The confusion exists because both days involve water. On Kataklismos day people used to throw water at each other (mainly kid’s pranks) etc.

Kataklismos day is the one day out of the year when you can squirt water say with a hose, at a complete stranger and get away with it because it’s a custom!

Only pagans celebrate this. naturally there is a lot of it where you were, especially on the beach. Although it is about flooding so perhaps by the beach is good but celebrating flooding. What kind of twisted min is that?
