As an Australian who is aware somewhat of Australian Military History and the war Australia fought against Japan in WW2, mainly with our British, French and American allies, the US had no choice but to drop Fat Boy on Japan.
Japan was asked to surrender to end the war in the Pacific. This was after quite extensive USAF bombings of Japanese Cities - even carpet bombing. The Emperor was not going to surrender. It is degrading to Japan and his reign. Culturally, surrender is a very dirty word for Japanese. Same as failure at school and in business.
Which is why suicide is huge in Japan even to this day.
As the allies were contemplating a D Day style invasion of Japan, it was evident that allied losses would be immense. I'm talking about hundreds of thousands of our soldiers, and we may still lose fighting them on their turf, just like Russia will lose flighting Ukrainians in Ukraine. It doesn't matter how powerful we were. We would have come against 60 million Japanese. Women and children will be fighting our troops. Our troops would in the end be chasing an invisible enemy.
Japanese are a very proud people. Tough as all hell. Barbaric in battle too. But also a culture with a deep sense of honour. To put some context on what it was like fighting Japan, allied troops feared the Japanese much more than German Soldiers. It's not that German Soldiers were not as good, they were quite baddass themselves but the Japanese took it to another level. If you had a choice to surrender as a POW to the Nazis or Japanese, you would pick the Nazis everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. Japanese Soldiers made the MAZIS look like cuddly teddy bears.
So America had to driop the Bomb. It was that or condemn hundreds of thousands of troops to death and many more years of war.
Once the 3 bombs were dropped, Japan had no choice but to surrender.
You have just advocated Russia nuking Ukraine with your above post.
Case closed!
Oh no I haven't.
Ukraine has never attacked Russia or poses a threat to Russia.
It would be a total absurdity if Russia dares use a Tactical Nuclear Weapon because they know what happens after that, and it isn't going to be pretty.
