Imagine a slow death.
The US currently imports double the value of goods it exports to the EU. Why should the EU have reserves in US$ and not the other way round??
Furthermore the value of currencies should be such that the balance of trade would be about equal. As it now stands the Euro should have a higher value to the dollar.
As for Britain that's a totally different issue, they are on trade deficit with the whole world
