Russia to conduct drills on disputed islands after Japan-imposed sanctions

Russia has said it is conducting drills on islands that are contested by Japan, days after withdrawing from peace talks in response to Toky's decision to impose sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

Four islands - which Russia calls the Southern Kurils and Japan calls the Northern Territories - are the subject of a more than 70-year-old dispute between the two nations.

Because of the dispute, Russia and Japan have not yet signed a peace treaty to end World War II.

Earlier this week, Russia said it was withdrawing from negotiations with Japan aimed at signing that treaty, because of Tokyo's tough stance against Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

And now, Russia's Eastern Military District says it will conduct military drills on the islands with more than 3,000 troops and hundreds of pieces of army equipment.

Japan had earlier condemned Russia for withdrawing from the peace talks and for halting joint economic projects in relation to the islands.

Japan is so screwed... what used to be a military-free island has now become a Russian military base just a stone's throw from the Japanese mainland!

Better watch out because japan has 120,000 tractors.

We know how this is going to end.

Militarily, Japan would capitulate even faster than the Ukraine for there'll be nobody there to keep resupplying them!

Do you think Russia is willing to give that a try?

With all the US military in Japan. And Japan being as strong as it is.

Look, if Russia can't even beat Ukraine, it's got no chance against japan.

Plus, it would trigger WW3.

At this point Get Real, Russia can invade Cyprus and lose to the CNG.

Face it. Pootin fucked up big time.

Any takers on this question then?

If Nato is so powerful, why did Poland decide not to send the Migs direct to Ukraine and when suggesting to send them to US airbase to go to Ukraine from there, why did the Yanks say no?

Come on there must be somebody put there with the answer.

If I did not answer a question it is because I did not see it.

I cannot understand it, they are not scared and yet they are petrified at the same time.
I wonder if there is such a medical condition? Or even any medication for curing it?

Here's your REALITY CHECK...

Unlike the US, Russia could wage war in like half a dozen places, against nations that can actually defend themselves.

The US is only good at pushing buttons from a 5km safety distance at 3rd world defenseless goat herders! :)

I already told you. The US is uninterested in getting NATO involved with boots on the ground in the ukraine and also with the establishment of a no fly zone or providing them with fighters from a NATO country at this point. That's because they want to avoid direct conflict between Russia and NATO, and consequently entirely avoid possible nuclear escalation.

But it looks like that stance is also slowlky changing with the US now considering Poland's strategy. Biden is actually considering the 29 Migs to Ukraine afterall

According to the map, only the center and north of Ukraine will remain independent. Seems like Poland declares its own aggressive intentions, and is trying to get the NATO peacekeepers to be deployed in Ukraine in order to gain a foothold in west of Ukraine, and further provoke separatism and the Polish influence in the region.

You mean the Russian invasion supporter?

Just to get facts right. Of course it's not Russia trying to partition Ukraine. it's America. And the evil west.

You people are delusional.

You really believed that's going to happen???
At best I would think that western Ukraine will not be taken by Russia. Now what will happen there I don't know, probably constant disputes with Poland and Romania over regions in Ukraine they believe were historically theirs.

Russia already partitioned Ukraine with the annexation of Crimea. Now the want to declate the Donesk region as its own republic. And they are attempting to take over kyiv and other cities.

So yes, of course I believe it.

It's actually much worse than that. They tried to take over all of Ukraine, so far unsuccessfuly thanks to the Ukrainian resistence.
