For example, if Russia was at war with the US, the USG may do it but the USG does not consider itself to be at war with Russia. So no restrictions.

I have heard private companies like Facebook and Google restricting fake news. But that is their call. It probably won't stand against the US Constitution. But Russia will need to challenge that, and if they did, they probably won't be successful because Russia has restricted all US Media and US owned social media as well. So the US Federal Judges will laugh it out of their courts more than likely.

But the US has not reciprocated. Free media is a first amendment right in the US, so in order for that to change there would need to be a very valid reason for USG to do what Russia has already done.

This isn't America's war. It's not America's fault that Ukraine wants to join the EU or NATO. The US never encouraged them. NATO in fact discouraged them quite a lot by rejecting their application.

America wasn't worried either way whether Ukraine joins NATO or not. NATO is a defence pact. It never has had and never will have the objective of attacking Russia, invading them or start a war with them. NATO is just a deterrent to any potential invader. If that is Russia, then they will then and only then come to blows with NATO and the US.

And this has nothing to do with the US. The US is a bystander nation, that has condemned the illegal invasion by Russia into Ukraine. It has joined the vast majority of nations globally which have done the same, including all EU countries, Cyprus, Australia, Japan and dozens more.

And of course this is the right thing to do. They have also declared economic and cultural and sporting sanctions against Russia. Which of course is the right thing to do.

They should have declared a "no fly zone" over Ukraine. That's not being critical of the current stance. I completely understand the thought process behind not doing such a thing, and that thought process might be right.
