No more energy blackmail - EU chief

EPACopyright: EPA
More on Europe's continuing purchases of Russian energy - EU chief Ursula von der Leyen says Russia will no longer be able to use energy to blackmail the continent.

The European Commission president said Russia would not be allowed to demand payment in roubles for its oil and gas, as Moscow has announced, as this would amount to circumventing sanctions.

"This would be a unilateral decision and a clear breach of contract," she said.

"It would be an attempt to circumvent the sanctions. We will not allow our sanctions to be circumvented. The time when energy could be used to blackmail us is over."

Earlier German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also refused to pay for energy in roubles, saying that the currency for payments had already been specified in contracts.

Wait for it... :?

They are not going to pay in rubles and already decided about that. The Americans promised they will cover their energy needs in LNG form. Which means at triple the cost, which means goodbye to German economy, goodbye to all the EU backbones. I foresee dissolution of EU which is already costing too much to every member

Give the Germans some credit and even the rest of the EU members especially those who depend on Russian resources.

The Germans agreed to halt Nord Stream 2 construction. Currently they are not using it and all their resources are via Nord Stream 1. They have also expressed the idea that they will take their time to release their dependence on Russian resources and build more renewable energy.

In 2020, Germany generated electricity from the following sources:
27% wind, 24% coal, 12% nuclear, 12% natural gas, 10% solar, 9.3% biomass, 3.7% hydroelectricity.

This makes very interesting read.

More likely scenario the war will come to the end and the peace agreement will be signed and the Yanks will be told to pack up their bags and go home.

Well at least I hope it ends like that.

Russia’s logic makes perfect sense to me…

“Russia has over 6,000 nuclear warheads they can deliver at speeds you can’t even begin to imagine, and you have the audacity to threaten us with Genocide?

So what’s stopping us from turning YOU into glass first, idiot?”

You just can't argue with that...

Can anyone counter this argument? :?

Those who are tasked to fire these weapons are not stupid. If they are asked to fire them, unless their opponent has fired them first will not fire first. More likely they will take out Putin instead.

These weapons as as useful as dog shit in a a park. They are bloody useless and very expensive too. This is why Germans have not asked for them and nor has 90% of the world.

It sounds like you're on your way of miscalculating also... whoever "fires second" has already lost.

You are not using logic. Firing first is no advantage because the other side has the time and the power and capability to fire second as the sites are well protected.

So nobody has the balls to fire first as they know their own population will get wiped out too.

Automated nuclear response systems currently in place, will NOT trigger if struck by a hypersonic… won’t have time. Are you implying manual operation after being struck? :)

Nooooooooo I mean mannually fired between them being fired and them striking their targets which will be some time depending on where they have been fired from. Are these weapons not underground and well protected?
