So, on the 4 weekly anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (because, despite all the spin and BS that's what it actually is) how does it look to be going?
Given the overwhelming military power of Russia it should have been a walk in the park. Nevertheless, they haven't yet taken any of the major population centres. And even to the diehards the idea that what's happening is going well, in accordance with some cunning plan, must be wearing thin.
They've changed tactics, from urban tank/infantry warfare - which turned out - given the amount and quality of the Ukrainian weaponry and tactics - to be a turkey shoot - to stand-off and the use of artillery/rocket/air attacks to pulverise places like Mariupol (as per Aleppo and Grozny). To which the Ukranians have no answer but a tactic that of course leads to huge casualties (human shields, my ass
) and widespread devastation. All recorded on every other persons pocket HD video camera nowadays.
Their attacks upon Kyiv have apparently so far been repulsed and they're digging in around the city. Seemingly preparing for another long-range and indiscriminate pulverisation.
The effects upon ordinary people in Russia belie GR's continuing posts that economically it's all actually
wonderful news. Does anybody believe that? It isn't of course in anyway good news for anybody.
The number of Ukrainian refugees, people forced to flee their country, is now estimated at 3.5 million. "Baboons" it seems.
Russians were led to believe that Ukraine would be another Crimea, where they would just walk in and be welcomed with open arms. It's turned out though to be a nightmare which looks already set to put their 15 year Afghanistan experience in the shade.
If you truly believe that all this death, carnage and suffering is the fault of anybody other than Vladimir Putin then there's really no talking to you.
Jeez. Who the fuck has a "favourite" weapon?
(LA, LA, LA). The ole saying - you can run - but you can't hide.
