Which is about two thirds of the countries GDP.

They also owe about $100 billion in sovereign debt.

The country is basically bankrupt.

From reports today ..................... very shortly to be followed by Russia and Belarus.

Londonfella, sanctions on Russia are boomerangs. The West just keeps hurting itself.

I always thought it's impossible for Russia to control 40M hostile population even if it captures the whole of Ukraine.
The situation is already a huge human tragedy considering Mariupol is only 400K population imagine what will happen when they would enter Kiev (3M population)
I foresee a long term instability to say the least, not only in Ukraine but within Russia as well.

The hidden trick about those sanctions seems to be in the so called "frozen" assets according to Al jazeras video posted by Paphitis. The West's plain people (especially the EU) will pay the price of sanctions, however the western elites will eventually eat the "frozen" assets legally transferring wealth from one oligarchy to another.
If it's true then it makes us all look like fools...

And, according to you, it's all good news for Russia. :eyecrazy:

Of course sanctions are going to hit everybody. In that respect "everybody" would have been better off if 100,000+ Russian troops hadn't flooded across the border into Ukraine, demolishing cities and slaughtering the population. Currently causing 2 million people to flee the country. Sorry to introduce a bit of reality. I appreciate this is all just academic excitement for a saddo like you.

The $64k question is, who will the sanctions hit hardest? If you think that Russia's heading for boom-time then you're an idiot. Ohh................... wait a minute!

Do us a favour. Give the regurgitated bio-weapon shite a rest. It's been dragged up for domestic Russian consumption. Justification for the slaughter that's taking place next door - in their name. Nothing like the discovery of a secret bio/nuclear weapon facility on your doorstep to help there. Dahhhhhhhhh!

Seriously though. I think the departure of McDonalds is totemic. In a sense it signifies the end of the advent of a prosperous, consumerist based Russian society and their return to a much more Soviet type lifestyle.

My opinion, FWIW, is that despite the nationalist element (tyrants all end up invoking nationalism by one means or another) that will fade. Russian people, particularly the younger generation, will want more from life now. In that sense Pandora's box has been opened.

Even before the fighting started, I believed the Russian strategy was to capture just half of Ukraine and divide the country into two parts, East & West. The Eastern part including Kiew would be in the Russians hand and occupied and the Western half will be in the hands of the Ukrainians. No doubt majority of the Ukrainians from the Eastern half would move to the Western part, which would become heavily dependent on the West to feed and house them in their own country. This will allow Russia to completely control the Eastern half of Ukraine with very little resistance from any underground fighters. So far looking at the war map, it seems to be playing out that way from the areas Russia has already taken and areas they are heading to. Once Russian military achieves this objectives, the Eastern part will be annexed by Russia for good.

In a sense Putin got away with Crimea. That's not going to happen with any move to annexe parts of Ukraine though. There's not going to be any post-conflict return to "normality". Perhaps, sadly, any more than in this country?

The man has spent 20 years building a Russian economy that's globally integrated. That's all gone now, unplugged at a stroke. There will be long-term, enduring pain in Russia for this catastrophe and an economic hit similar to the 70s oil price hikes in the West. The idea Russia will simply sell their wares to other countries (the Chinese?) is overly simplistic and doesn't bear scrutiny. They were joined at the hip to the West and nothing's going to make up for that.

A reckoning with Putin has long been overdue. It's a great pity it has come at the bitter expense of the Ukrainian people. :(

Are you kidding me? That’s the crux of the whole operation… to dig up all of America’s dirt they’ve been conducting there since 2014.

Expect a full analysis and write up soon as I gather evidence.

Thank God for comrade Putin taking out all these American installations of mass death... :?
