The way we were...

Since the early 90s we taught the dissolved USSR all the “free market economy” tricks, very well!

Putin embraced the idea, and used it to rebuild what was now a broken Russia into a modern economy that gradually took its rightful place among all other nations on the planet.

They did incredibly well under the circumstances, and wound up becoming the world’s premier energy exporter and significant raw materials supplier.

Russia and China are the reason Western households prospered so well in the last 20 odd years… with dirt cheap energy, dirt cheap raw materials, and dirt cheap Chinese labour… we had it all!

Manufacturers could now flood the markets with so many goods at affordable prices that we got spoilt rotten!

Everyone had 2-3 super sized TV screens, 2-3 vehicles, countless computers and phones, every domestic electrical or digital appliance imaginable… and everything was dirt cheap (yes I’m intentionally using past tense), and when one appliance would fail you’d just toss it out and get a new one with the latest features… dirt cheap again!

So cheap was everything that electronics repair workshops were gradually abandoned in droves… it just wasn’t worth repairing much anymore.

But we didn’t appreciate all that… we somehow got lost into understanding how all that came about and probably gave credit to the West; who allegedly had all the blueprints, instead of giving credit to the real heroes… Russia and China who made it all possible!

Well I’ve got news for you… without Russia and China the best the West can ever offer you is ONE of each appliance per household, that you’ll be paying at three times the price and you’d better believe it so get ready for what’s coming.

Today we are saying to Russia that we’re no longer happy that Russia has done so well and gotten so strong, so we are inventing new excuses in the hope of pushing Russia back into “USSR status” again, because we feel threatened by their success. We are even bragging that Russia is now; thanks to our sanctions, like N.Korea!

We insist on rejecting the open Russian hand of friendship, we treat them with disdain and insist on our pompous ways because the truth of the matter is that Russia can do no right in our eyes whether they are “wrapped in an enigma” or unwrapped in our capitalism.

We are indeed racists, we are arseholes, we are most ungrateful and now we’re gonna pay a heavy price for our stupidity. I guarantee you that!

Superior logic and common sense is not something you can borrow unfortunately… :)

Not either I think.

The idea that everything that's going on in Russia economically at the moment is in some way a serendipitous opportunity for them is ............... searches for words................ risible bollocks.

Businesses en-masse are cutting their loses and flooding out of the country. If they'd opened the Moscow Exchange (closed since Feb 25th) it would reflect the catastrophe that we've already seen with the trading of Russian related stocks in the global markets.

Coca-Cola et al (whoever) leaving isn't a sudden happy opportunity, and Russian entrepreneurs champing at the bit to fill the vacuum makes no more sense/reason than the idea they're waiting in the wings eager to produce their own Mercs/BMWs.

There's a big downside for Russia - particularly ordinary people - to all this economic carnage. You talk like it's some sort of golden chance.

Rose tinted glasses.

Ohh - thank you. (seriously!).

I fully understand.

You're much happier firing off what you think are witty one-liner put-downs. Interspersed with reams of links, many of which are either of a loony Conspiratorial nature or don't really support the point you're trying to make at all.

As somebody I think once said to me though. "I couldn't give a flying fuck ................................ :D

Now toddle off and carry on with your desperate attempts to convince everybody that what's going on at the moment is a total disaster for the West and by their foolish self-harming actions a great opportunity for Russia. That, whilst displaying your mental problems with comic remarks about the death and destruction Russia's meted out to the Ukrainian population in the name of Vladimir Putin's grandiose vision. As you said yesterday "They've been bitch slapped" and "Why should I care about the Ukranians?" You're not a well man GR.

The irony of your forum name.

Why inst this a disaster for the west?

When I say west, I predominately mean the EU. The US is placing the EU in the firing line and are less exposed to Russian sanctions.

from my vantage point;

1: the EU is going to absorb millions more refugees that need financial support.
2: the Ukrainian military are asking for and are getting expensive military equipment donated to them.
3: non lethal aid is also being donated and being shipped to Ukraine.
4: the Ukrainians want to drag western countries in to the fight.
5: the US and EU are implementing sanctions against Russia that are driving up the costs of energy.
6: The US and EU are sanctioning Russian businesses in their own territories and severing tax contributions.

this doesnt look likely but it doesnt stop the Ukrainians also asking for;

7: fast track EU membership, or immediate EU membership, that requires billions in EU harmonization funds (Just to mention, the country is highly corrupt and has its own oligarchs). EU tax payers will pay for this and it will be a lot because Ukraine's per capita is less than Bulgaria's at about $3,100, its a large country and it is currently being destroyed.
8: The Ukrainians are looking to join NATO, which increases the risk of a direct military confrontation with Russia.

The Ukraine must be punished for crossing Russia’s red line and subsequently wasting every opportunity to set the record state, while Russia has been very lenient with them so far. Kudos to Russia.

Once the Ukrainian civilians have evacuated, I think it’s high time to release the Tsar Bomba on Kiev and finish off this story once and for all.

Putin needs to understand that this can’t drag on forever… he has to finish it and force the complete surrender of the Ukraine as swiftly as possible.

It’s in everyone’s interests that this debacle closes asap.

Any economic blockade will hurt us far more than the Russians. There are plenty of countries who will buy their resources.

Any corporation off loading Russian interests will be bought by the Russians on the cheap. Cancer called Capitalism is undefeatable.
