The farcical narrative soon to be adopted by the West once the shit hits the fan, and the baboons start pointing their fingers at each other as to who led us down this catastrophic path…

So they’ll have to reach a consensus to justify their folly with something like…

“Russia was on the brink of attacking Europe right after finishing the Ukraine, so we had no choice but to ruin our own economies in the hope that we could take the bogeyman down!”

And some of you are so incredibly dumb you’re going to believe it and even embrace it with a…

“It’s the catastrophe we had to have!”

How “punishing” Russia by removing popular brand names can only build Russia further...

When you remove McDonalds from Russia the Russians will invent their own version of McDonalds and now won’t even care about violating patents and such. So, say hello to the “Putinsky Burger” with exactly the same taste as the Big Mac and at half the price!

The same goes for “Coca Cola”… I think anyone can foresee the “Sputnik Cola” with a little satellite logo on the bottle with pretty much the same taste.

You get the drift... brand names abandoning Russia can only hurt their respective Western companies who will no longer have access to Russia’s 145 million strong domestic market, but it’ll mean huge opportunities for Russian entrepreneurs who will be swift to fill in such voids with domestic copycat produce and job creation.

I'm sure Putin is happy to hear of such Western moves because they all lead to an improved balance of trade for Russia.

Btw, you may think that giants like McDonalds or Coca Cola were obliged to withdraw from Russia due to sanctions but that’s not true because these are huge international corporations with multiple trade identities so they could’ve easily continued trading without any worries.

Can I borrow your rose-tinted glasses when you’ve finished with them?

I would have thought most, if not all of the 650 McDonalds fast food outlets in Russia would be franchises and not company owned, therefore, how can the parent company force the franchises to close down based on political decisions?

Coco Cola I can understand somewhat as the parent company has the secret ingredients.

Superior logic and common sense is not something you can borrow unfortunately… :)

Yes, it gets complicated... I don't know the fine-print in the eventuality of the franchiser going political... it's probably gonna get pretty messy with lawsuits and such.

Globally, most McDonald's (MCD) locations are operated by franchise operators. But that's not the case in Russia, where 84% of locations are operated by the company, according to the document. Russia's restaurants, along with another 108 in Ukraine, all operated by McDonald's, accounted for 9% of the company's revenue in 2021, according to the document.

The legal entity that has the exclusive rights to sell coke a cola in Russia is the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company.

Thanks Erol,

I meant to say 850 McDonald “restaurants” and not 650.

84% is a high company owned outlets in Russia. Surprised really!
