Russia has a formidable propaganda/misinformation apparatus, which is both internationally and domestically orientated. It's centrally controlled, with the Kremlin at its apex. Is that a contentious statement?
Internationally, wrt the Ukrainian invasion, its objectives have remained unaltered since Feb 2022.
Principally - and relentlessly - focusing upon the weakening and dividing of western opinion in order to dilute and ultimately defeat popular support for the war. Popular support - unlike in an autocracy (dictatorship) - being a weakness of democratic systems.
To that end certain themes have been central and unremittingly played upon.
Denigration of the trans-sexual, corrupt, drug addict Zeleneskiyy is one. Corruption in the Ukrainian armed forces, resulting in the black market selling of western arms to neighbouring countries another. There are others.
People will of course tend to believe the material which most suits their particular agenda.
