The thing is though, no one is forced to join the EU. It is totally a voluntary action should the joining country and it’s people meet ALL the requirements to join the EU. Living under empires was not a voluntary acts, therefore you need to differentiate between Cyprus under the British and an “equal” member country in the EU.

As we showed them too, they canleave any time they want too. It is just not that easy. If you walk away from an umbrella while it is raining you will get wet.
Of course the Brexiters are now complaining that the EU especially the French are being mean to us. Atupidity is beyond belief. You become a competitor of the organisation and yet you want them to do you favours.

Get Real! wrote:Cyprus used to be a proud, hard working people that had a unique identity and enjoyed a healthy economy but EU membership has stripped us of our wealth and culture and turned us into handout-begging zombies.
GDP per capita in Cyprus has been steadily increasing over time.
It was on an upward trajectory since independence and also it has been on an upward trajectory since Cyprus join the EU in 2004.
in 2000 the GDP per capita was $14,500
in 2004 it was $24,000, when Cyprus joined the EU.
in 2021 it was $29,500
and it is projected to reach $38,000 in 2026.
The only things that have proliferated as a result of EU membership are drugs, crime, asylum seekers, laziness, bastardization, reliance on others, and a loss of who we are.
Really? The crime rate is also somewhat stagnant, it is still one of the safest places to live in Europe and in the world. I dont know about the rest of it but its not the only things that have proliferated.
Cyprus ain’t what it used to be… our daily lives are dictated by EU technocrats we know nothing about… people we never see… it makes me wonder why we even bother electing a government!
Nothing stays the same,
What’s the use of these puppets draining the economy with their high salaries if the orders come from Brussels?
Brussels doesnt manage the day to day affairs on Cyprus.
Return to Cyprus and the European Union
