Close the gates because of bird flue?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Piratis » Wed Feb 01, 2006 2:53 am

lets close the gates of cyprus to world and u live there happly ever after

We don't want to close the gates of Cyprus to the world because we would have huge negative consequences from doing so.

Therefore taking the risk for keeping open the "gates to the world" is worth it.

Now tell me why it is worth it for us to keep the gates open to the occupied Cyprus and increase the risk for disaster? So some people will go play in the Casinos and go tourism in the occupied areas?

The "free" movement of peoples and goods through the gaits was one of the arguments used by Papa to stop direct trade to the TRNC.

Arbitrarily closing the gaits would mean a fully enforced embargo on the TRNC, something the EU will never accept.

In any case closing the gaits will not have much of an effect on the TRNC, since the trade with the South at the moment is minimal. But it will be a serious blow to the credibility of the RoC. I can imagine the headlines in EU newspapers "Greek Cypriots prevent free movement in Cyprus", "Refugees cannot apply for property restitution in TRNC courts because of a GC blockade".

All you "experts" should remember that not even the real experts know if/when this virus will be mutated to one that can be transmitted from human to human.

Piratis, experts don't know when a huge astroid will crash into the planet and end all life either. This does not mean that it's ever going to happen. The fact is that there has not been any human to human tansmission in the whole world. The other fact is that this disease is being spread by migrant birds. So, the gates have nothing to do with the spread of this disease. The damn thing has spread to Turkey and Romania from Vietnam. No gate, wall, baricade, etc. can stop it any way.

Because in essence this will mean that you have chosen to isolate a part of the RoC citizens that we claim to represent internationally. This will give every right to Talat and Erdogan to use it as evidence that the RoC discriminates on the TCs and doesn't recognize their right to move freely within the territory of all Cyprus. From then on you can imagine all the risks associated with it, especially in relation to "TRNC" recognition issues and direct trade, besides the justified negative reaction that this will generate among the ordinary TCs.

Didn't they choose this discrimination? Last time I checked they refused to be equal RoC citizens and they do not obey the RoC laws.

Why should we increase the danger for the law obeying RoC citizens to serve them?

Would you like to see people dying from this decease and our agriculture and tourism going to hell for 2006 because the of the Turkish occupation?

If you close the gates you will get sued in the ECHR for illegally expropriating TC properties, preventing access to them and providing no means of regress.

Exactly! It would be the best present to the TRNCyprus.
But somehow I think they are not that stupid to that. But then again you would expect anything from Papa.
