Oh this is now turning into a soap opera.
France just recalled their ambassador from Washington and Canberra.
I understand they are livid but there was a contract and in that contract Australia did have an exit so contractually and legally, it was above board.
But the French are calling it a betrayal. I wouldn’t go that far. It was clearly a case that there was a better option that would better meet Australia’s needs and propel Australia in terms of military capability that will give Chy-na much pause for thought.
But nevertheless, Australia probably handled it all wrong and could have done a better job in informing the French, but no matter what, when 90 billion is involved, it will still cause angst no matter what Australia did.
The French are saying that they should have been included in the pact. They said that they too have major concerns and lack faith with Chy-na. That I totally agree with.
They said that they have colonies in the Pacific and have every right to be part of the security pact. I totally agree again.
I think France needs to be included as yeh, they are an ally we can trust and respect 100%.
Let’s hope France join us and we all move on.
What is clear, this was never meant to upset or hurt France but understand they are livid. But Australia got to do what Australia got to do.
