...only two hundred years; what is Afghanistan. Ruined what was a rich cultural heritage long before such modern notions as States.

...always a proud people, they resisted British colonialism, left with a self sustaining society as it was for hundreds of years (instead).

Afghans live in a vast arid and unpopulated land; they are mostly rural and nomadic as dwellers: Kabul is not Afghanistan.

...perhaps a BBF is suitable as a political model in Afghanistan; as Persons, Nations which demonstrate respect and recognition for/of the minorities that live among them, and, a State which represents them (without further discrimination or distinction) equals as Individuals.

Basically “What have the Romans ever done for us??” then?

FWIW. I’m sure you’ll find they didn’t “give” HK to China. IIRC, the British had a 100 year lease, which expired in 1997. :?

Very happy.

We came and gave them civilisation. Now, rather than rubbing sticks to create a fire, they can have a lighter and a box of matches to light the barby to cook the emu in front of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

What else can they ask for? :?

And if it wasn't for the Cypriot Settlers, they wouldn't be able to have a souvla and kleftiko.

You see! Now, they are dancing in green parks instead of going on walk abouts through the nhospitable Australian deserts.

Plus, they wear clothes, attend school, play video games, and watch Aussie Rules.

Talk about a win win.

European colonization made Australia what it is today. I really have no clue what your issue is, as the Australia of pre colonization was certainly very primitive to say the least. So am unsure what your issue with Britain is. The came, decided to settle the land, found a few natives but cotinued to lay the foundation for modern Australia as we know it today. Australia was up for grabs, and Britain got lucky.

And there are 26 million very grateful citizens here who believe they live in the best country in the world, and you want to know something? It's pretty dam close to as real as you can get. It's a bueatiful country, and we have a great lifestyle here. Sure, there are many other great countries too, but it's pretty hard to top Australia, but as we all know, it's also subjective.

You said that you couldn't find a country where there was british involvement and find a happy people and not a mess. Well, we are all pretty dam happy, and Australia is no mess. Quite the opposite actually. it's a blessed country.

The biggest downfall for Australia right now, is this skewing towards totalitarianism because of COVID.

This thing about painting the British as some kind of boogey man race is really quite absurd inmho.

As a country, they have contributed a substantial amount globally, and to many countries and in a very positive faschion. I mentioned some countries as an example.

I mean I understand, that a Cypriot might not agree, due to the Colonial Years in Cyprus, especially in the 50s. But that isn't the norm. And it shouldn't have happened in Cyprus, but it did. And Cypriots need to accept part responsibility as well.

I say that because when you look at Malta, Britain's contribution to that small country was nothing but positive throughouit.

So I can understand Cypriots being hateful or not trusting of them.

But they are fairly nice people.

Now, if you go to Hong Kong, you will see millions of Hong Konger Chinese, who would love to be under British Rule again.

So what Cypriots experienced in Cyprus is not the same as what others experienced from the British. Polar opposites in fact.

Cyprus was a victim of geopolitics, and also, from our lack of patience as well. But that's the way it is.
